I've been assuming his plan this whole time was "make sure Lyndon lives as long as possible, and then right before he dies, tell him any relevant information you learned this time so your original counterpart can torture it out of him."

If you have two divergent histories though, the only information that would be relevant would be information prior to the split. Knowing that something happens 100 years later doesn't give you a roadmap to it because there are countless other possible/actual branchings in between the divergence and the possible future you're trying to engineer.

Also. Audrey is so offing Lyndon once they get the information they need.

Right, tree wizard is only rationally afraid of snakes.

From the look on Audrey's face, Lyndon won't be the one making the decision about his death:

Audrey continues to be the best. A concise summation of the situation followed by murder. 8 months real-time spent on this nonsense, it's incredibly Thorsby.

nah old Audrey would be like "sucks about Trixie and everything else; enjoy being a tree, dumbass, I'm gonna loot this place and kill a bunch of guards" instead of committing suicide for shot at a better world, even if it's just better for a different Audrey

Synthbuttrange

Hm, I dont think see that as a real change. Klara's always been really important to her. Once she found that she's really alive, the simulated world was doomed to be destroyed by Audrey. Saving Trixie and Lyndon and herself here now is about getting Klara to stay alive.

The ambassador will then use the scepter on himself, as in the simulation.

When his vision ends, he might be confused enough to give them a window of opportunity.

They have to escape with the sceptre, otherwise the ambassador can just use it again and get the info that he needs to thwart their attempt to save Trixie and Zoozo.

Trixie dies within the next few hours. I don't think looking into the future will help him come up with a short term plan.

When they can warn Zoozo his vice president gets kicked out and he will lead everyone into a socialist utopia. Not many ways to prevent that after this point. The ambassador considered all those other options before and checked out what happens if Trixie actually manages to warn him.

Basically, it's like a video game. he knows all of the wrinkles of the plot due to excessive safe scumming, but if Zoozo survives this, the game is in a failstate and the benevolent tzar will fall.

More about the last few strips. Without that snake, Lyndon wouldn't have been able to threaten to kill himself. So he would have had no leverage, no way to stop Wendy from killing Audrey, and without her, no way to stop tree wizard from treeing him.

The tree wizard had a lot of build-up so he might appear in the real world. But Thorsby is known to casually introduce these things and then never show them again so who knows.

Ok, so the ambassador knows that they save Trixie and Zoozo but not the details, so he's heading to the palace to finish them off himself. Looks like this story's entering its endgame!

The Lone Badger
Sep 24, 2007

The ambassador kept the sceptre, which gives him an advantage. Except that Audrey/Lyndon have enough clues to figure out how he's using the sceptre, and then start leaving false information for future-ambassador to discover and mislead current-ambassador.
