A full game is such a beautiful tense standoff. Allowing spectators was also a great choice.

IDK why I have the nuclear itch with games. It's pretty underexplored and yes, there is the obvious end result. Probably because it is so rare in games in the first place, I've fought the Civil War, WWII, and Middle East like 1000x.

I agree. Ever since I have seen Wargames as a kid I have wanted to play a game of Global Thermal Nuclear War—and not some arcadey aesthetic copy of what was in that movie, like DEFCON, but an honest to god grog level sim. And yes, I understand every game would end the same.

Edit

This is why I loved the original Harpoon so much as a kid. I could check a little box and use nukes on things like ships, submarines, and airbases.

There's also that unbelievable tension in a well implemented nuclear theme. The kind that can't be described in words

but perfectly in one movie

Baloogan shared a similar sentiment (rip) and I think he is the main push in Command for all the fun nuclear weapons that it has.

I'm an alien.

This is borderline grog games but does anyone know if it's possible to transfer the DLC released for Panzer Corps on Steam to versions of the game available elsewhere? I want to buy it on GOG so that I don't have to use Steam to play it (and to support the developer a second time) but I really don't want to have to buy hundreds of dollars worth of DLC again.

I don't think so.

I believe GOG connect doesn't allow you to link DLC across the platforms.

This is because GOG use's your steam profile to see what you own, but your profile doesn't show the DLC for games you own.

The only thing I can suggest is, if you want to give the developers money.

Link your accounts, you're get a free copy of the main game on GOG, then buy the DLC you really want.

Gog connect is also time-limited, it's best to subscribe to their steam group so you get a notification when something is added.

The Chechnya mod for Armored Brigade is finally out, which is something I've been long excited for: https://www.slitherine.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=441&t=79619&p=802565#p802565

Haven't gotten to try it yet, but the maps look incredible:

Oh gently caress yeah, for anyone as deeply confused by Graviteam's artillery system, The WarSimmer just did a real in-depth explanation of on and off-map artillery:

EDIT: And gently caress, I actually forgot you can call reinforcements because the battlegroup UI is so insane.

WITP I love and hate you. After six months of real-time play, I lose the last of the allied carriers in Dec 1942, trading Lex and Yorktown for Akagi, Kaga, and Hiryu.

Now I have to decide on a slog through until the Essexes some time around halloween, or restart.

My favorite thing in Silent Hunter 3 was starting in 1939 and trying to survive as long as possible in a Type II sub.

Hell yeah, U-21 was my starting boat in every career, though I would sometimes move to Type-VIIs.

Only having 5 torpedoes taught me to be very accurate with my firing solutions and to learn just how much I could get away with per torpedo.

You and me three brothers. The IIc campaign, with the exit through the Kiel Canal, defines SH3 for me. Kills south of Dover were so sweet.Hunting BBs off Norway and then getting a VIIc out of Brest felt earned like few things in videogames ever did.

All I really want is GWX3 Gold on a modern platform.

Looks like new CMANO is coming out. Tacview and what appears to be a higher resolution map.

Steam Page posted:

You asked for a faster, smoother earth-globe interface with richer, even more detailed map layers - and you got it! Over half a terabyte's worth of satellite imagery and terrain elevation combine to deliver an unprecedentedly crisp battlefield for your forces to roam.

Hundreds of changes and additions to gameplay based directly on user feedback means the game is now yours more than ever. Minimaps? Check. Quickly load recent scenarios or saves? Yup. Real-time dynamic ORBATs of both friendly forces and known contacts? Yessir. Time-step sim execution to prevent “runaway sim”? Can do. Glorious victories or crushing defeats have never felt so easy to experience.

Expanded ground ops let you take advantage of distinct terrain types (desert, forest, urban, swamps etc.) for mobility, weapon effects and visibility. Enhanced AI routines for dogfights and even more technical factors make your grip on air superiority more tenuous. The groundbreaking features of the “Chains Of War” campaign are now standard: Disrupt your enemy’s communications to isolate his units (but watch out for your own), perform scriptless amphibious, airdrop or pickup operations, watch as aircraft limber back shot almost to pieces and marvel at exotic new weaponry.

* Support for real-time Tacview 3D view (NOTE: separate purchase of Tacview Advanced edition required)
* Automatic on-demand remote fetching of platform images (Players no longer need to manually download and install the database image packs)
- Realistic sub comms
- Vastly improved aircraft flight model
- Improved dogfight AI
- Aircraft crew G-tolerance
- Radar frequency agility
- Explicit Doppler-notching
