The city planners say "And we'll put those people right here, and spend as little as possible doing it" In places that get a lot of hurricanes, this has some consequences!

The city planners say "And we'll put those people right here, and spend as little as possible doing it" the no sidewalk thing i think works in both ways. there's lots of rich white-flight enclaves built like 30-40 years ago here in the bay area without sidewalks (like lafayette) and also lots of rich limo lib marin neighborhoods have no sidewalk (tbf some of that is because they were built pre-automobile and just very narrow horse-roads with housing abutting them so there's no room). this is so "those evil urban ferals" don't come walking through their neighborhood to steal their tv. but also yeah it's a way to gently caress with poorer areas as well.

I was just about to post NHC's 5-day tropical weather outlook   NHC posted:ZCZC MIATWOAT ALL so that's one tropical depression almost certainly forming west of the cabo verde in the next few days, plus potentially another one east of the cabo verde later in the week, plus one that's likely to form in the gulf of mexico
