In the original script he spoke in single Kanji characters. I guess the translator thought big characters require equally big letters. (Not that speaking in Kanji makes any more sense)

Thinking about it, I can totally see Quistis as a Head Girl, much more than I can see her as a teacher or "instructor" to be honest. This is now my headcanon. I love how even though Selphie is so generic and undefinable, we all still probably knew someone just like her at school. This is a thing in a few Square games, right? Like, I think Robo from Chrono Trigger starts out by talking in weird and unfamiliar hiragana/katakana (I can't remember which) but as he becomes more humanised it starts to get phased out in favour of more "normal" speech. It's a neat idea, just a shame that English can't really accommodate it that well. Though I have to believe there were better ways of doing it than RAGE.

There just really isn't an easy way to translate Fujin's way of speaking. The way she talks just doesn't make any grammatical sense at all, and not in a way that's particularly easy to get across in English. ALL CAPS robot mode is a compromise that works well enough to "This girl's weird".

I can’t wait to get home to play FF8. That game was my childhood. My brother and I probably put over 200 hours into it. I still have the original discs somewhere.

If I recall right, most of the robots in the game speak entirely in katakana, where Robo doesn't use it for everything, but does use more than the other characters. All katakana is a very typical way of writing out robotic speech.

So is it just me, or is there no analog control support for FFVIII Remastered? Using a DS3, if that helps.

Seifer and co are all Prefects, 100% Fujin would have been completely improved by simply changing her text to lower case instead of all caps. You could imagine her then as someone who plays things very close to her chest, very taciturn. Instead she screams "RAGE!" and kicks Rajin in the shins, which I thought was really funny when I was 12

I wouldn't say I knew any Selphies in high school but literally every job I've had has a Selphie. A woman on the party planning committee that's just too over enthusiastic about Hawaiian shirt fridays.

According to the steam reviews, FF8R doesn't have widescreen support, has low capped frame rate, and Siren isn't naked thanks to the SJW menace. Can anyone confirm these?

I was trauling the Steam forums on my lunch break because I have a morbid fascination with poo poo posts and noticed they even remastered the product description:Original FFVIII Steam Description posted:It is a time of war. Galbadia, a Global Superpower, has declared war on Dollet, a country whose training academy is home to two personalities: the hot-headed Seifer and the 'lone wolf', Squall Leonhart. Both are equally at conflict with each other as their country is with Galbadia; to others, Squall appears lacking in team spirit, while Seifer lacks the discipline of his rival. However, a chance encounter with the free-spirited Rinoa Heartilly turns Squall's universe upside down; having thrived on discipline, Squall find the carefree Rinoa fascinating. He also begins to dream that he is Laguna Loire, a Galbadian army soldier… FFVIII Remastered Steam Description posted:It is a time of war. That first one is bizarre. Also it looked like original FFVIII had an age gate that the new one doesn't have. Surely that's not actually just because of Siren, right?

That merkin coverup is pretty lame and looks sorta weird on the dress, but it's not 62% negative reviews on Steam bad (only 175 total reviews showing). People are also upset about the 15FPS battle and the upscaled, but not re-rendered, 4:3 movies. This along with FF3 and FF4DS must run on branches of the same engine. Probably FF9 too. Of all things to ruin some people's Tuesday, it's a low-poly pussy curtain and presenting the game close to how it originally was. Oh, internet...

The double dip is legitimately a harder sell on PC since the PC rerelease from a few years ago already had some built in cheats, achievements, cloud saves and stuff. I've basically just been looking forward to this from day one for the model replacements. V look out for my texture replacement mod that gives Squall a big bushy beard. It gives him a modern-day Jake Gyllenhaal vibe that I think fans of Final Fantasy and cinema will really enjoy. Randallteal fucked around with this message at 04:31 on Sep 4, 2019 |

AdmiralViscen posted:How was a game almost entirely made up of hand painted static images ever going to be widescreen? Crop the top and bottom? Apparently that's what they did for the Resident Evil Remake remaster (or I think they actually just zoomed in the camera and cut off part of the shot to get it to widescreen, not the background images specifically, but functionally that's still zooming in on the images). They must have had much better assets to begin with though because I remember that game's environments looking pretty sharp in 1080p.

they shouldve used those AI-generated re-renders of the painted backgrounds and just let them extrapolate for widescreen, irrelevant of how unworkable the results may be

So far the funniest thing to me about the FF8 Remaster is that the console versions now have the same bugs/limitations as the original FF8 PC port from 2000. 8-direction controls and 15 FPS UI for everyone!
