The question is, is Cathartic Reunion enough to warrant keeping red? Do blue/green/black give you a CMC 2 or less looting effect (even if it isn't as big)? Or do you lean harder on straight mill like Tome Scour + discard effects like Brutality and the Innistrad Skabs that come back from the grave? anyone who's had a dredge player cast cathartic reunion against them knows that the card is 100% worth the red splash

That deck is still modestly priced for Modern and people play it to success, so it may be a worthy investment.

You can't trim the red from the deck no matter what. Adding blue seems smarter, since it means that things like narcomeba can be cast from hand instead of being a truly dead card.

Devor posted:My guess is that humans snap up dual-lands because they want to fill out their collection for deck building, so after the first tuning pass bots love them too? Or they might give them high values to reflect a "real" draft experience where real life people are filling out their collection and won't want to pass rare dual lands. It’s neither of these; it’s because they make Good Dual Lands inherently hard to get because then people will buy lots more packs to get them. It’s a way of increasing scarcity in a world where all rare cards theoretically have an equivalent value. I’m not sure they actually said this out loud ever but have certainly come close a few times.

Obviously taking data from Arena drafts to tune the Arena bots would be pointless since you're usually railroaded into UB or Temur.

So the spoiler season officially kicks off tomorrow with the stream, but they refuse to answer anyone's questions about what time it starts. Which makes sense, if you want to use a Twitch stream to start generating hype in order to drive sales of your newest product, the smart move is to not tell anyone when it starts, right?

Yeah, but in the past drafts came out on MTGO before they went live on Arena, and now I think they happen at the same time? Taking white cards to be the sole white drafter only makes sense if you're seeing it's open a few picks in, not slamming Protector Griffin 2nd pick but still passing Raise the Alarm like the bots are doing. Do common print run orders still exist, and does Arena follow them? If so, I could look at draft logs and figure out the what the bots are taking the first couple picks in each pack.

Food will be like Treasure and have its attributes defined by the rules of the game rather than the card. That makes it kind of annoying because I can't tell what Food does. It's probably an artifact to work with Oko's other two abilities. Or it could be a creature. How rude of WOTC to change how creating Treasure works so they can use the technology on cards without reminder text.
