Yeesh. I spent literally all of yesterday, from 2:00 a.m. when I woke up until 8:00 p.m. or so, dicking around with Resistance Firearms, normalizing the stats for LWotC. On the plus side, now I have 50-something gunz, SMGs to Assault Carbines to Assault Rifles to Battle Rifles available for +4 mob to -2 mob on soldiers, LMGs and two HMGs, a couple of AMRs on top of a bevy of sniper rifles, and a few combat shotties along with a bunch of pump-actions. All damages set properly, all configured to be purchasable at Mag and Beam levels. Hell yeah. Pistols are broken, though.

Does anyone know of a mod -- or where i would make the ini change -- to reduce will loss per action or start soldiers with more will? Because lately it seems like every map leaves everyone Shaken and the only mod i can find like that just turns will loss off.

Yeah, first thing both archons do in turn 2 is fly right onto the Avenger's landing pad, game over.

Since my ironman save corrupting wasn't enough fun, I decided to try a game on legendary next (definitely NOT ironman) to see how far I could get. I'm having to learn how to game line-of-play a lot more than I ever did on lower difficulties. If you get too close to the objective, every un-activated pod on the map will inevitably path right into you. I'm using the double turn counter option, because no way am I good enough to rush on legendary. So I decided to tackle the first advent blacksite story mission last night, and I'm wondering if something glitched with the number of pods. Like, I know this is legendary difficulty for masochists, but still. I killed the first pod, and the chosen hunter shows up and starts jabbering at me. I kill a second pod, and he specifically gives me the 'that's the last one now it's just me' dialog. So I move my reaper forwards and find two turrets next to each other. Weird, but ok. Sniper cheese those from a distance, creep the reaper forwards again, find two more pods. Uh... OK. Pull and kill those, finally get to the facility proper. There's yet another pod inside it, and one more wandering around back. Seriously? So now I've finally actually cleared the map and it's down to just the hunter, but my team is pretty bruised and battered, all of my consumable tricks are used up, and I'm starting to wonder if I'm going to put a dent in this guy at all. I had to save and quit for the night since the mission had gone on way longer than I'd expected. His last trick was to knock three of my (5 person) squad into daze with his dumb grenade. I'm probably going to have to save scum a bunch of 50/50 attack rolls to even have a chance to get through it at this point. It doesn't help that he rolled up with the 'bonus defense after first attack' buff combined with 'take more damage from 3+ attacks' weakness. And missed shots give shielding, too. Fun!

Got through my previously mentioned blacksite predicament without major save scumming, just by running most of my team out of LoS to draw the hunter in and then going all in running into his face and shooting the hell out of him. Managed to make it out only having to haul off one bleeding-out soldier. Still had to cheese the vial grab a little bit, got all my squad next to the evac and then had the last person grab it and leap frog through cover to make it out while the rest kept the reinforcement drop pinned with overwatch. Legendary feels like it was designed around knowing the game inside and out and exploiting that knowledge to the fullest. Also I really have no clue how to do the mark crates supply raid missions on legendary. I have to creep forwards so carefully to avoid pulling too many pods that I'm lucky to make it out with a single crate. Although I do now have a reaper with target definition, so that might help in cheesing enemy movement better.

When you kill all the aliens you get every crate that hasn't been picked up by ADVENT iirc

Said it before, I’ll say it again. Best way to do those missions is to reroll for a smash and grab supply raid.

Fojar38 posted:When you kill all the aliens you get every crate that hasn't been picked up by ADVENT iirc I know, but as slowly and methodically as I need to go to not get creamed on legendary, the last time I did one of these, by the time I'd killed all the aliens, there was exactly one crate left. It might be a little better on crate missions, actually, because line of play doesn't have one single goal to focus on, so you may be less likely to have 3 pods one tile out of sight waiting to jump you.

I've heard that a good chunk of the rewards come from the first crate you mark. I don't know if that is true but I usually just mark the easy ones while focussing on finding and killing pods. Even losing half the crates gives me a good haul.

# ? Sep 10, 2019 22:37 |

you’re shown a crate at the start of the mission, move aggressively toward it under concealment from the start. If there’s a pod in the way, be within a blue move before you break concealment. Secure the first crate, the rest are bonus. As mentioned already, don’t tag a crate prematurely unless you’ve moved so far past it you can’t reach it with a dash move on the next turn.

So I redownload this game a week ago and am a few months into a campaign. My third or fourth retaliation mission is the format with npc resistance fighters running around shooting, and the psionic Chosen shows up. In the final turn of the mission, he mind controls a Ranger and then the resistance pals proceed to shoot the absolute gently caress out of her, leaving her at 1hp after the flanking kill shot missed. I had been irritated since he has the property where missed shots power a shield but every shot which wasn't attempted murder managed to connect.

I think I enjoy this game so much because I never cheat or reroll or reload a bad mission from the start, or anything. If I go back, it's starting a new game. I think I've reloaded once or twice after a misclick though but that's it. Same with the first firaxis xcom. I don't normally play ironman because of bugs but I find it is just SO gratifying to finish these on normal then move up to the harder difficulty level. I never play on impossible or whatever the highest level is but, I finished 1 on classic and 2 on veteran or whatever it's called. Of course this means that I play a ton of campaigns for the first two missions or so, because for instance in xcom 2, the 'blow up the statue' mission often ends with a complete wipe or maybe just one guy left alive to be promoted, which snowballs into rookies dying every single mission and me never getting promotions, or in xcom 1 I'd lose too many countries and have too many promoted soldiers killed by thin men, and have to restart. But when you make it through and finally start improving your guys and get better at it, it's so great. Then when you inevitably lose one to four of your best guys throughout the run, it's even better to recover from that. I get why not everyone would want to do that, but I find playing like that is so drat rewarding, so when I finished xcom 1 for instance, and saw the average damage per shot worldwide was 10000, and average guys lost was 0, etc etc, I thought: 'why? why even play?'

I feel no shame not playing Legend on Ironman because it means that I can reload if Xcom pulls a Firaxis like it did last night, when I ended up pulling a Sectopod pod from the other side of the map because the Purifier with them somehow teleported behind my group on turn 2 and triggered everyone's overwatch while still being tied to that pod on the other side of the map Word is it was "nothing personal, kid" but I still reloaded

Am I dork for using the custom character creator to create a robot suit for my pet rabbit, and have her run around capping aliens?
|
# ? Sep 11, 2019 22:52 |

Edit: ^^^ Please tell me you gave the rabbit your username Yeah, when the game freaks out and does nonsensical things it's definitely time for a reload. Teleporting dudes around, or concealment breaking because a deactivated lost on the opposite end of a building and three floors down somehow saw your unit through 5 LoS blockers. I enjoy the occasional ironman hardcore no-safety-net playstyle in other games, but only when said game is solidly coded enough that random bugs won't wipe your team out of nowhere. Or you just get save corruption, like I did, and your campaign is instantly dead.

So we've got a lot of folks here who use RPGO right? I just started using it recently and have been having a good time for the most part, but have run into a rather frustrating bug with it I was hoping others might have had and would know how to resolve. I've noticed that sometimes- not always, but pretty frequently- some passive bonuses from soldier perks and equipment will just randomly not be applied to some of my soldiers during missions. The two I've noticed this the most with are the damage bonus from the Blademaster perk and the Hack bonus from Gremlins. That second one in particular is crippling when it comes up since hacking in RPGO is so dependent on that gremlin bonus; it makes it nearly impossible to succeed at any hacking actions. Does anyone know what causes this/what I can do about it? Is this something inherent to RPGO, or maybe a mod conflict or something? My modlist, in case it's relevant: code:

Just be careful. Customization mods are what will murder your load times, especially those big weapon packs. Take it from someone who regularly bounces between 180-250 mods, going through purge periods when load time slows too much

I have a dream mod that may or may not exist already where someone adds a research breakthrough that gives my sparks another weapon-slot and a second breakthrough to half the time it takes to repair a spark. I know it's a simple thing to edit in the files but it just feels wrong to go in and manually give myself a bonus when I'd much rather have a slightly more challenging and flavorful in universe explanation for the change. Plus I wouldn't feel obligated to get it every time nor would I feel like doing something dumb like just halting my research for five or ten days to 'simulate' the process.

I remember hearing once that the surgical sitrep was bugged and sometimes threw too many enemies at you. Anyone know if that was ever fixed? Did one the other day that was fine, mostly 2 enemy pods until I got to the end and was hit with a 4 enemy pod consisting of a lancer, a purifier, a trooper, and a freaking gatekeeper. Just the gatekeeper alone would have been enough of a challenge with only 3 soldiers on my team. I barely made it out with one of my soldiers just having to go for broke and ending up flanked and eating two crits, yet miraculously holding on by one HP.
