There is tremendous revolutionary potential locked up in the workers of America and I really believe that it can be unleashed, and that it will be unleashed, if we see people fighting for poo poo that actually matters. Bernie Sanders is a compromise candidate but he is right there, and I think we can build off of the back of his movement to make a real push to destroy capitalism here in the heart of the beast. i think this is a really optimistic take, but the fact that "socialism" has become an acceptable concept to a large part of america, especially american youth is a good sign. i do believe that americans wont "wake up" until we see societal and environmental collapse

12min creates micro books, summarized versions of entire books told in text and narrative form and meant to be consumed in, you guessed it, just 12 minutes. It's called a book summary service and you have to pay a monthly subscription.

Plank Walker posted:would love to know wtf is going on at hasbro that they keep producing these "edgy" monopoly variations Wasn't the original Monopoly supposed to be edgy? Like they were literally trying to show people how hosed capitalism is and how it's impossible to get ahead as soon as someone else gets an edge. Of course if they really want to be edgy they should just do a maoist version.

All the player figures are pre-keyed and put above the realtime photo, it doesn't have to do any processing on it This being capitalism.png, I wouldn't expect it to have any tech Flash dress-up dolls didn't have

On the subject of fresh produce, there are these little bins at my local supermarket where they put bananas, with a sign telling parents to take them for their kids at no charge. It made me think about the controversy of food that gets thrown away for not looking pretty enough, and how heaps of people say they would be willing to buy 'sub-par' produce at reduced cost. It's weird because the supermarket can't get people to take the good stuff for free even when they lay it out in front of them.

I always grab one of those free bits of fruit for my kid while we shop, and also my local supermarket has a section where it sells the ugly fruit and veg at reduced cost which I buy. So there.

There's been a big push against food waste here and many supermarket chains are doing sales on stuff close to expiration now. Used to be a lot of them would dump bleach on it after throwing it out.

So there. the big Canadian grocery chain Loblaws has a brand line called “Naturally Imperfect” that’s packaged plainly and less expensive. my understanding is that it does relatively well for them. there’s also this thing called FlashFood that sends app notifications for daily near-expiry discount. there are a few companies doing stuff like this, and it’s an area where economics and sustainability are (temporarily?) aligned: putting otherwise-waste good to productive use, including food bank donations, can be a big deal for a thin-margin industry. I am curious as to how they will eventually make it destructive.
