There was a beehive at my work earlier in the week, just found out building management had them poisoned, which has resulted in the death of the hive, and also the death of many magpies and now there's no birds here at all

I notice that the APS has finally released a position around gender being influenced by media. One of the criticisms of the APS (and one of mine, more personally) is that the APS has had a very small media presence, where we really should be more proactive and "loud" on topical issues, especially where a clear evidence base exists. A bit of a step in the right direction, but I'll be interested to see what more can be done from an advocacy point of view.

I know the AMA is quite conservative in a lot of its positions (e.g. iirc they opposed euthanasia in Victoria last year) and a lot of doctors denounce it pretty loudly, does the APS have similar issues of psychs saying they don't agree with the APS and refusing to recognise it?

Yeah but the reason people have a problem with the APS is because it's trying to be something for everyone, so therefore it's difficult to advocate on certain positions because you end up with the split between generally-registered psychs vs. clinically-endorsed psychs. Also the organisational psychs don't feel represented at all because most of the poo poo the APS does isn't really that relevant, and then you've got the more niche subfields who basically get poo poo on all the time. It's hard because you could have more representative groups (much like the different colleges for MDs) but it also dilutes the amount of clout each group has, which is why they had the broad church approach in the first place.

A hive that's killed suddenly like that will be a haven for multitudes of critters far more annoying than bees.
