Lol do you think people just browse Patron for things to fund sight unseen? Like people would fund a comic that they have never read and never have seen the update schedule already?

I do think K6BDs gets new readers, yes. I also think it is INCREDIBLY UNLIKELY that as you're experiencing all this dumb bitch energy for the first time you are looking at the date each comic is posted.

And since most people who have read it already are or are not Patreon members (having made their choice on the matter), new readers would represent almost the entirety of new Patreon members.

So mainly I think you're not trying to discuss this in good faith, but instead offering a thinly veiled criticism. So uh, thanks I guess?

You have the long term perspective as readers of the comic forever. You understand the update schedule and why it isn't 2x a week like clockwork. But what if a new person is trying to decide if they want to support through Patreon? A comic that updates once a week vs. one that updates twice a week is a huge difference.

That's all I'll say. I'm thrilled people value the comic enough to support it through Patreon. I've personally bought all the comics as they come out in a physical form. I just want transparency on the update schedule when you're telling people what they get for their money.

like what's your endgame here dude. are you trying to get people on your side? justify away your own feelings of guilt? use reverse psychology to get other people to donate to the patreon? because as i see it you could have very easily kept your mouth shut even before you originally posted your personal reasons for not donating to the patreon or at the very least after a bunch of people pointed out how poo poo stupid your logic was and cut your losses but you seem absolutely determined to dig that hole you're in deeper. maybe mark this one up as an L and take some time to consider why that might be.

You said YOU wouldn't contribute because of that. Your decision has no bearing on what a new person might decide to do. I contend again that if you had any intention of contributing to the Patreon you wouldn't care about the schedule delays.

It's FINE to not want to contribute. A lot of people can't, and I'm glad that everyone gets to read the comic for free because of our support. Just don't try to justify a reason for doing it. You weren't going to do it in the first place and were looking for a reason to justify that decision.

An online game has a subscription service that promises realm uptime of 99% a month. It's down one and a half weeks every month. Do you feel like you are receiving what you paid for?

You buy a season pass for a game. One out of every three promised updates never manifests. Do you feel like you are receiving what you paid for?

I could go on, but I think you get the point. And I'm not hearing any actual disagreement other than, "I personally still think this service is valuable enough despite it not meeting its promises."

That's a fine view point to have. The comic owns. More power to you. But I don't think its fair to represent the comic as updating twice a week when asking people for money if it doesn't update twice a week. Yes, patreon is optional. No, that doesn't mean its okay for the information provided there to be inaccurate.

And now I am actually done and will only respond if someone specifically asks me for a response.

These are terrible examples because you're not buying the comic. You're getting it for free, and will keep getting it for free whether or not you pay for it. You're basically saying that you're not getting enough comic for it to be worth paying for, and that therefore it is worth nothing.

Like, you don't have to support the Patreon, the comic is free for a reason, but this reasoning is really, really bad.

The reason this pisses me off so much, I just realized, is that the entire reason I brought up Patreon in the first place is because Abaddon is facing burnout because he sees his Patreon numbers dip every time he delays the comic. And then you come in and justify his concern. It felt really tone-deaf and unnecessary.

LET THERE BE NO GENESIS
I try very hard, in extreme and earnest good faith, to update the comic twice a week, which is why the patreon is like it is. I took a break to get married this year and I took a few days off to go on a trip with my then-fiancee. Every other week I have been trying very, very hard to deliver two updates because I think it is extremely important to treat my comic as what it actually is, which is work. I'm not going to change what is says on patreon since that is the update schedule of the comic, and has been for about 4 years now, even if I don't hit it exactly every week I do most weeks, and I am extremely clear (sometimes to a degree I worry about) when there are going to be delays. Yes, I don't hit 104 pages a year. I also like to spend christmas with my family and be a human being.

That's my 2 cents.

I have a new job since a couple of months and I really like it. I am also planning to take a week off. That week I won't do anything related to my job and I really like that too! The idea that I would look at that week off and think "but I would work anyway so why take a break" would feel pretty bad. I hope operant gets to a point where a break would actually feel like a break!

I think I have some finance things that require optimizing(cancel a server I dont really use, overbulky phone plan needs trimming) and get a patreon tier.
