Secondly, let me skip cutscenes.

I dont really give a poo poo as to why anythings happening at the start and your basic tutorial is so boring and plodding that I can only wonder how anyone still convinces devs that we need 20 mins of text, audio, and mindless walking/escorting until i can shoot someone in a shootman game

Oh and i played the first two borderland games before randy became so gross sex pest and the only reason i say that is because i know who the gently caress lilith and fat velma are and i dont care for their intros. They arent cool or interesting.

Anyways i never experienced good gunnery because i only got to lile lvl 10 or something but what i did shoot and murder was okay I GUESS but nothing felt new, unique, or worthwhile.

Not given you a means to test a character first before selecting it as your personal avatar is also nuts in a 3rd game in a series.

Gotta say though that i was reminded of the gross joke weapon in the game that refers to a pitchford quote about his weird sexual comments and thats a level of introspectivityness that i do not care for and am slightly disgusted by

Here's to the new us.

quote:

One thing I will tell you.. when you play a single player campaign normally what you have are cinematics (Whether in engine on rails or pre-recorded) followed by perhaps a wander around a small space like inside an aircraft or space ship - then you get in cockpit and do missions. One of first that broke this tradition was Mass Effect, you went planetside and there were things you could do within small areas but it was still mission based timeline.

This was in relation to me talking about how Chris, live on video, said SQ42 would be out later that year (2014) with SC to follow the next year.

But apparently they are not dates and mean nothing, poo poo happens apparently, and this is absoloutely fine and normal. Now, i'm happy to agree projects get delayed, things don't work out, but when the man in charge keeps revising it year after year, and then goes silent for a couple of years, then shows off an hour long demo, and how it just needs more polish, then more silence for a year, then announces they have scrapped it all and redoing it... well, it does make one a tad concerned about the honesty of their communications.

coming fresh off a bl series replay the gunplay is way loving improved and the qol changes are nice

writing didn't grab me until around I hit the main hub tho and tales still has the best writing in the series

Also tales is kinda a weird thing, because the production costs were insanely high. it was a major, major loss for the company and probably one of the final nails in the telltale coffin

the licensed music alone prob cost a poo poo load of money, they got some of the top VA talent for pretty much every single character, brought in outside writers and editors, and even so, the sales were extremely bad.

it's one of my favorite choose your own adventure type games, especially the very last episode, but it's partly because the production value was so high

it's a good example of "making an excellent product no one really wants" and what a game company should avoid trying to do unless they don't mind taking a huge bath sales wise

well if you think about it, “year” could mean all kinds of things. like in the bible it says god made the world in 7 days but we now know that it actually took billions of earth years. and star citizen is a much greater undertaking, like they’re creating hundreds of worlds, and they aren’t even god, so obviously it’s going to take them longer. have some patience.

I'm currently working as a research programmer at a university. Basically this means that when researchers need some software made for their projects, I help them make it, or just outright make it myself.

Recently I've been working on VR stuff as part of a project that studies player experiences in VR, and the various factors that negatively or positively affect it (basically what will come out of this will be a set of guidelines for what to do and what not to do if you want to make a fun, playable VR experience).

One of the very central "underline this poo poo three times so you don't forget" concepts is that you should be VERY careful about taking vision control away from the player. Don't do canned animations where the player's field of view is manipulated by the game and ignoring the player's actual head position, because that's a Autobahn speed shortcut to vomit city.

I bring this up in the Star Citizen thread because cultists insist that VR support is coming and it will just be a case of ... I dunno, refactoring the graphics pipeline full stack backend occlusion containers to V2.1, or whatever the gently caress, and then CIG can put "vr-support = 1" into the config files and away we go.

It's hilarious to think how miserable playing Star Citizen in VR would be. You need fast, steady framerates (90+ minimum, for two independent displays basically), you need to consider FoV and design your entire UI around VR. Even if CIG somehow did that, crobbert's genius "drunken sailor headbob, first person motion captured cinematic loving looks around my plane's cockpit before I take off" is just fundamentally incompatible with how VR games work.

You have an extremely cool job

Yeah the VR thing has been known to be b.s. for literal years now. People have wedged the game into VorpX but it fundamentally doesn't support freelook modes- even trackIR support is lacking because headlook and not sitting in a cockpit just don't go well together. Chris basically stopped bringing up or considering VR around 2015 but the devs will still pretend like it's being worked on when whales ask them- this is yet another sign that they are willing to lie on camera about things.

Ironically of course, Elite not only does VR extremely well but is so good in it that it's practically a flagship title for PCVR at this point.
