"Tiny Trains"

The total collapse of the NDP would be amazing. It would probably be a lovely next couple elections but if it means a truly left party will emerge from the ashes and do some actual good in the long term I'm all for it.

On the flip side, if the NDP collapsed right now we'd just see a bunch of the same people form a "new" party that's even more explicitly not-socialist and it would probably be way worse.

Yeah they would take the same message as all the right wing parties do when they lose.

That they were too left wing.

Does anyone have a "Greatest hits" of lovely green party takes in the past few years? Trying to dissuade some people voting green in my family because they are fed up with the Libs/PCs but think the NDP is commie.

What the gently caress.

Jesus. Why can't people just take the super duper easy step of never applying makeup on themselves to change their ethnicity for a party costume?

How loving hard is it? I mean, I can think of literally a million costume ideas before getting even remotely close to "person of another ethnicity". God drat.

Frankly given some of Trudeau's other sartorial choices I can't say I'm wholly surprised.

If the NDP collapsed right now, then there are several outcomes could also be totally bad. If the Greens do fine then not left, not right but forward becomes Canada's left alternative and the even minor antagonism that the NDP shows to large business would be gone. Then all the professional people that really do not like strife would easily move over to the greens and you would have the same problem for another few cycles.

The other problem would be that having the NDP get demolished when it is running more to the left than it has in a long time might just teach a bunch of people that Canadians are not really interested in major change. I think there are a group of activists and potential activists that would focus their efforts not on electoral politics or major change. The crowd I am thinking about are your shop stewarts, well meaning teachers, ngo types and community activists that might instead decide that working on harm reduction projects and or embracing the system.

When Neoliberalism seemed untouchable in the early 2000s many people that would be able to form a more radical party were instead working more inside the system and never really focused on challenging it. Unions embrace of the liberals could be considered part of this as well. Another example would be Lula in Brazil. After losing on a much more radical platform they moderated.

Finally, one of the lessons that could come of this would be that people could say that Canadians are really racist and it would create push back in parties against the representation of racialized peoples.

I think the actual good outcome is NDP holding the balance of power for proportional representation and then a more radical party emerging then. But really climate change and increasing social radicalization can throw this off.

Hopefully Andrew Scheer quickly accepts the apology for the racism and bigotry, should just do it in advance.

I have no applicable skills for a remote job (trades yay) and I can't think single place on earth that's better for a trans person to live than Vancouver. No, I think underground is the safest place for me to ride out the inevitable Scheer government.

Apology? Come on, this is the same guy who lost two cabinet ministers earlier this year and an easy majority re-election because he wouldn't apologize privately.

Most Canadians won't care about this (except for the dangerously progressive ones) other than as a gotcha.

looking at it that's plausibly the defense they'll come up with, but if he's supposed to be the genie from Aladdin, Williams' genie didn't wear a turban and stuff

Also regarding the usual get a remote job and move argument: where. where the gently caress are you gonna move. the US is a mess, the UK is hosed, not that much else of the Commonwealth is better (maybe NZ?), I guess you could try for the Francophonie if you're real good at - oh wait that's Quebecker French, get fuckt

Digging through old photos as a political attack has always been a thing but the recent spat only got started when the right wingers panicked Disney into firing James Gunn, and it's taken off since then. The downside for a lot of the people doing the digging is that the same thing can be done to them.

I don’t think anyone will switch their vote from liberal to conservative because they are outraged over racism (when there is another option) but maybe I’m naive
