I hadn't heard of this being offered, and don't see anything similar on my provider's website. I have choices of supplier, but it's just a list of random company names and I'd have to do more research into each. I'd imagine it's heavily dependent on region, but is this something that was advertised directly or promoted? I guess more broadly, is this common at all in the US?

Oh, this actually wraps back around to something I purchased. A friend of a friend is a reseller for one of those electric supply companies and I switched to using them recently. Pepco controls all the delivery around here so you still pay your power company every month, but the actual suppliers that get the power to the power company to distribute have different rates through different sellers. So now I'm paying two companies for electricity instead of one but it'll save me a decent amount in the Winter since we have a heat pump for heat. Like you I did not see any option to pay extra for renewable energy support but as others mentioned when it comes to trusting corporations you're probably better off just donating a little extra to support causes.

I hope all of your recent purchases include a Hydroponics garden and a school of tilapia.

Buses can (and should) have seatbelts too. A friend of mine worked as a first responder and was one of the first on the scene of an inter-city* bus crash and basically the only ones left unharmed were the passengers who'd buckled up.

You can just use the term city bus because that differentiates it from cross-country buses! Here in America, I'm sure there's multiple companies but the only cross-country bus anybody knows is Greyhound.

I bought a 1tb SSD on sale for $80 cause my 128gb SSD is literally not big enough to hold an entire game on top of the OS anymore, when I built my current PC SSD’s were at like more than a dollar per gigabyte poo poo’s crazy now. Just sad I couldn’t get the m.2 version cause my motherboard doesn’t support it

Also got a google pixel 3a xl cause I switched providers and needed a new phone, was bummed cause I wanted to buy a used 2xl but the deal I found fell through and I kinda ran outta time/patience. It’s a real good phone though big improvement over my last one and way cheaper than other good phones atm

Maple candy! Pretty easy to make considering it's just one ingredient.

My future recent purchase will be maple syrup to make maple candy.

Some AliExpress scores:

$55 for a 12x22” pedalboard. Similar size from Pedaltrain or Gator would be 3-4x as much. It’s not super heavy duty but sturdy enough for my needs (playing at home or occasionally a friend’s house).

9 guitar holder for $26. The biggest “good” one I could find on Amazon/Sweetwater was $90 and only held 5 guitars. I wrapped the foam in cotton twill tape to hedge against the cheap stuff that it came with damaging lacquer finishes. Also the fastest shipping on anything I’ve ever bought on AE, was at my door in less than a week.

Really good maple syrup you use like a quarter the amount of it compared to "normal" stuff (excluding flavored corn syrup bullshit.) It's still really expensive, but I bet it's amazing.

I got some more tires, see my earlier posts for the last time I got tires if you care about the all seasons.

More importantly, I got some silicone airlocks for wide-mouth Mason jars to allow me to ferment veggies in smaller batches than a whole gallon. I like making giardiniera, basically 3.3% saline brine and some spices and herbs and then whatever veggies you like. Some of my friends won't even try the cauliflower, another has no gall bladder and somehow this means she can't have spicy foods, etc.

Also, a 2019 model Samsung QLED 4K TV, it's real purty.

Apparently I'm getting some beard oil in my near future, this beard thing is new and sort of unpleasant.

Strongly recommend Beard Balm and not Beard Oil.

Balm does wonders for my beard and underlying skin, while oil gives me beard dandruff and zits.

Honest Amish is available on Amazon and feels/smells great!

I'm definitely a fan of the real deal maple syrup and have been known to fill an airplane mini booze bottle with real maple syrup and take it with me to Waffle House 'cause that's some next level poo poo. But 100% pure maple syrup is <$15 for a pint so $48 for an ounce less than a pint is significant.

Who am I kidding, I'm going to buy it.

Maple syrup pro tip: Grade B is not inferior to Grade A. Grade B is darker and more maple-y. It works better than Grade A for cooking/baking and I generally prefer it even as a pancake/waffle/ice cream topper.

Oddhair posted:

I've had a beard for like 20 years and have used beard oil off and on (usually when my beard's gotten long) but I recently stumbled on the combination of Cremo Beard and Scruff Softener and a Boar Bristle Beard Brush and I doubt I'll ever use beard oil again. I'm pretty sure the beard softener stuff is just conditioner but idgaf 'cause it works great.

Looks like Cremo makes a beard balm too, I'll have to give it a try.

VVV I tried the Cremo face wash and I liked it but didn't see any benefit over just shampooing my beard. The scruff softener does seem to work better than my hair conditioner though for whatever reason.

I use Amish's balm for travel and it's a pretty good all in one. I've tried a ton of stuff for beard conditioning and skin care and the best mix for me is a shower wash from Cremo and a butter from Maestros (lotion like consistency). The thicker balms work ok long term if I blow dry them and the heat helps it spread but the butter is really easy and brushes in well. A balsa wood brush with wide tooth spacing is also a great accessory since it naturally holds the oils and spreads well compared to plastic or metals.

Pro-er tip:
There is no more Grade A or B, at least not as it used to be. All retail grades are A, with a few sub-categories:
https://newengland.com/today/food/guide-to-maple-syrup-grades/

Old Grade B is now "Grade A: Dark color and robust flavor"

The new system is dumb, IMO, but them's the breaks.

Huh, apparently it changed in 2014; I had no idea. I'd just assumed that some marketing people decided "Grade B" was turning people off and had moved to the dark/robust wording but that it still had the A/B ratings in small print somewhere on the label. Thanks for setting me straight.

Thanks for all the recommendations, going to try Cremo and Maestro combo, with Amish on standby like an avocado.

On the TV thing, if you buy at retail they'll mention older models as the appearance doesn't change much, but you can save hundreds. It's like model year closeout but the new year's model has a little more oomph for playing Netflix, maybe weighs a few ounces less or more.
