People who take pride some kind of perverse pride in peeing in the pool. I can’t account for the years where I was literally a toddler, but I have no memory of ever peeing in the pool. I’ve lived in a house with a pool since 1993 and have NEVER peed in it. gently caress you, don’t even joke about peeing in my pool, or even your pool while I’m present, neighbor kid I grew up with. It’s a communal space. How’d you like it if I come to your house and pee in your living room? What, it’s not like there’s a chance it’ll drift over to you. HURF DURF IT’S STERILE DURRRR.

I hate cognitivism. I hate when a complex phenomenon is reduced to that stupid loving input-output model. Cognitivism is designed to reduce human beings (especially schoolkids) to quantifiable output. Cognitivist academics are usually the kind that love Ted talks, pseuds and scumbags with no real curiosity.

Steam seems to have just updated its "library" page by removing the other two view options (large text, and icons only). Now everyone is forced to use the one where your games list is crammed into one edge of the screen and the main thing you see is a bunch of useless garbage I don't give a poo poo about - the only option I never used and have always hated.

Also, all my games have been removed from the categories they were in and dumped into a single "uncategorised" list. I'm assuming that part was unintentional but who could possibly say.

Edit: Also, my list is now full of dedicated servers for games I don't even have. :psyduck:

You can opt into the new library beta. It's still optional, under "beta programs" in steam settings. That's the new library, not mandatory yet.

Literally everything I want to see is in that tiny section on the left. That used to take up the whole screen and the text was big enough to read from the other side of the room, even on my broken old TV. Now most of the screen is completely wasted space. And you can't even double-click the icon to run the game because that just takes you to another useless page with the actual "play" button on it.

the new library is vastly better in my estimation but i don't like that it doesn't differentiate games i own vs games i can play through family sharing

the stdh.txt thread is my pet peeve since almost close to 100% of the time everyone will go along laughing at the unbelievable posts until it's something they personally want to believe is true because it makes them feel good or re-enforces their worldview and then they have to pipe up about how 'actually that could possibly happen' when in a world of infinite possibilities pretty much anything could 'possibly' happen making the premise of the thread null and void

Similar to this, my peeve is when I look something up (not usually advice, more like how-to-do-this or how-to-fix-this stuff), the results are invaribly not helpful. 80% of the time it's folks asking about the same problem, 10% of the time is stuff like "I fixed my router by changing my video drivers, hope this helps", and 10% just don't have a hey-heres-how-I-fixed-it-in-the-end resolution anyway.

Double peeve when the solution is simple as poo poo, like restarting whatever the Problem Thing is. Like, I know a little about computers, surely the "did you try restarting it?" thing is a cliche I don't need to oops its fixed

My pet peeve is that there’s no really good word in English that is second person singular and conveys the same politeness as “sir” or “ma’am” - I work in a call center and it seriously drives me nuts. I don’t want to use either of those as several folks I talk to each day identify as nonbinary, but referring to someone several times during a call as “you” seems unprofessional. I wish that I could use handy terms like ya’ll, all ya’ll, chef, coach, etc. like I do outside of work. :( I come from hillperson stock too so it’s not like those terms aren’t in my usual vocabulary.

Podcasts that put an entire episode(s) of the creator's other podcast(s) in their feed. That's great you have another podcast and that's how you make money, but I'd rather not listen to a different podcast when I see that the one I already subscribe to has a new episode.

All the podcasts that successfully get me to subscribe treat it like sample day at Costco. Give me 5-10 minutes to pique my interest without committing to 45 minutes of something that'll cause me to bitch about it on a dead gay comedy forum.

The only one that does it well, IMO, is 99% Invisible. Sometimes another creator has, like, a parallel track podcast and they come out with an EP that's *perfect* for 99PI, so they do a collaboration with Roman and both feeds release the same episode as a special feature.

They never feel out of place, and it's always common hosts and audio style. I've expanded into a few podcasts that way (shout-out to The Allusionist).

Sorry, no. I got all the entertainment I need for just the cost of an internet connection.

$8 for them, $5 for another pod, $10 for your favourite YouTuber, $8 for Netflix. Its poverty by a thousand cuts after you support everyone you like.

Don't punish the driver for something that might have been out of their control.
Yeah we had a bad delivery once (don't have GrubHub here I think, it was some local one), he showed us his phone (once he called and told him the correct address) and the address was backwards (ie instead of 1/67 Example St, it said 1 Example St) so he was down the completely wrong end of the street. It didn't affect his tip since we don't anyway, but it probably didn't help his other deliveries getting done and whatever metrics they use to pay people here (probably below our minimum wage still).

Yup, you used to be able to buy the codes separately but now publishers are starting to bundle them with new textbooks only! HOORAY!

Maybe see if your school has a Affordable/Open Educational Resources committee that students can participate in? there is a growing number of educators, students, library workers, etc., working on increasing instructor adoption of low cost or zero cost materials.

What’s more annoying to me is I live on a street like that but one side has way more cars on the street, so the person with no cars on their right will expect you to pull over to the left and yell at you for not pulling over
