Does that handcuff any potential congressional remedy? Maybe. The Senate remains a problem. His base doesn't loving matter by itself. If he only has his base he's totally hosed.

Lote posted:If Pence is heavily involved, then impeaching Trump and removing him from office means Pence gets removed too. So you get President Pelosi which would make all diehard Republicans’ heads melt. It would never ever happen but President Pelosi would probably make a ton of boomers drop dead immediately. There is 0% chance of Pence being impeached if he becomes President, no matter how much Trump implicates him. Even if there's evidence that Pence also strong armed Ukraine (which isn't really his style I don't think) there's no way Mitch would ever let it happen.

Could be wrong, but if even Fox News is thinking about dropping him like a hot potato, that's not a good sign for him.

You can fully and accurately describe what happened in one sentence, and what happened was on its face (to anybody who isn't already a Trumpist) hugely immoral and, perhaps even worse, cheating. e: also makes him look weak, and incompetent.

I swear 3/4ths of the posts in this thread are near-identical repeats and it’s getting worse; maybe with this thread being so new and under extraordinary circumstances it should be remade with a new OP filled with “yes here is how impeachment works in the Senate”, “this does seem to be sticking differently, mob boss metaphors”, “here is the same list of no-comment congresscritters”

if the republican base is starting to sour on trump it's because of angry ranting like this. one of his big weaknesses is that he sounds like a crazy rear end in a top hat. if you're tuned in to politics and reading his twitter feed it's obvious, but if you're not paying active attention and don't spend all day On-Line then it's easier to rationalize or dismiss how nuts trump is. putting tantrum video on the news puts his bad behavior front and center and it reminds squishy republicans of the obvious, that the president is deranged

I feel like that's the lifeline that the Republicans will hold on to during all this. Even here, the administration runs into the problem that A) there is no other plausible reason for aid to have been cut off, and B) from how hard they were apparently pressing Ukraine, it's a very clear A-B connection for the public and media to make even if wasn't explicit.
