Speaking of beating VACANT: Only one person can get a shot at the Hellweight title on this show but EGO also managed to beat VACANT. So EGO will do battle with Fomore who is clawing their way into the title picture on an effort to become the first Quadruple Crown champion. With Freddie Hope's match against Flamander not happening for another four weeks he postpones his training at the Old Dojo for a little warm up against the entirety of the oRa 66. But not without the help of the Young Devils he's been training. Meanwhile, Flamander continues to hold the Bunny Championship :3 heading into his fourth defense against none other than Roy, who defended the Title four times before he lost it. On a lighter note: Our Seven Deadly Pins match this time is all Hosses. The Battle of Hoss Angeles... or Hoss Diavolos, I dunno. Eight pieces of beef slapping together repeatedly.

Oh I see that they still have all the wrestlers in a neutral pose again, even though they literally have a hundreds of pre made menu screen poses and an editor for them. Also, yay, it's universe mode but more draggy. 30 new cutscenes!! More pointless matches per show!

They have "new streamlined controls" this year, whatever that means, which reminds me of the time the Applebee's waitress told me they have "new meat." Seriously I liked 2K19, but I probably only engaged with 10% of the game (creation modes, exhibition Reversal Festivals against the AI). A lot of the modes seem really barebones. I'm used to the controls out of habit (I think they've kept them the same since whichever one of these I bought for 360?) but there are some janky match types like HIAC, some janky moments where your wrestler turns like a big rig etc

I appreciate how Universe mode makes the wrestlers look how I imagine they all feel inside. Man, is it Thursday already? Last week was a huge show featuring two tag teams breaking up and a skeleton invasion. I don't know how much of that is going to matter this week because a hurricane is rolling through and talent and fans alike are unable to make it to the W.A.V.E. Pool. They made a lot of pretty positive tweaks to Universe Mode last year so I'm not surprised this isn't a big overhaul but there is literally not one major change/improvement here. Some things actually seem worse, like rivalries spontaneously ending after one match. Universe Mode is where I tend to spend most of my time in these games and it's frustrating when they let that feature stagnate for things that no one asked for.

Maybe "streamlined controls" means I can finally kick out of a pin. I've been trying to do it in every 2k game for like a decade and I can never pull it off. I've had epic matches in a Hell in a Cell where I throw Enzo off the drat thing five or six times and still eat a loving pin out of nowhere after maybe ten seconds of offense.

Pins were still poo poo. Submissions were abysmal, though. Whether you had the dumb circle thingy (which is ugh) or the bit where you have to mash a specific button. But since streamlined controls seem to be on the list of features every year I'm just gonna guess nothing changes anyway. Especially not with the million dumb minigames. Somehow, I get the feeling, that wrestling games were just more fun when the secret to kicking out of pins or breaking away from submissions may or may not have been mashing all the buttons. You just didn't know because there was no UI to indicate it, but it made you feel like you were struggling for something, not against the game's weird minigame.
