I accidentally started a collection of CEDs in high school when I bought what I thought were laserdiscs. Then I of course had to go on eBay to find a CED player.

A few months ago I saw a CED player in a thrift store, same model as the one in the thumbnail. They wanted $100 for it. I passed, but my next visit to the store someone else had picked it up. There were a bunch of discs for it mixed in with the records too.

As nostalgic and interested by past tech as I am, there’s not a bone in my body that would pay $100 for a CED collection. If I had more shelf space than sense, maybe a player sitting there unconnected would be neat. I had a copy of Escape from NY on the format about 15 years ago when I had no idea what it was, and that’s about as deep into CED ownership I feel the need to go.

The concept is interesting but totally pointless. Something that should have been in a presentation about something cool but unnecessary and then mothballed.

I picked up a copy of 2001 at the thrift store just because I'm a sucker for the cover art. I have no means to play it nor would I ever wish to

Finally after DHL losing my order and waiting for AmigaStore.eu to replace it, I have finally got a new power supply for my Amiga 1200 so I can run the GVP Turbo II+ 030 accelerator card The card itself The new PSU which is about a tenth of the weight of the old one The A1200 being opened again The GVP card installed. I do have the SCSI break out board for it, but don't have any SCSI stuff at the moment, so not much use installing it POWAR! Look at it compared to the 68EC20 that the A1200 has 32MB RAM, a lot better than the standard 2MB Now WHDLoad is being a bastard and not loading games, but got plenty of time to work that one out

Those GVP cards use these odd 64-pin SIMMs that can be hard to find, fortunately there’s a bloke on Amibay making new ones.Sweevo posted:Wow an actual 40mhz 68030 rather than a 25mhz one with the speed rating scratched off! GVP made some quality products back in the day. The accelerator I'm using at the moment is a DKB 1230 that's roughly equivalent, maybe a little slower, but has the cost-reduced version of the 030 instead. It has the advantage of taking EDO RAM, which is considerably easier to find. Bargearse has a new favorite as of 16:33 on Sep 27, 2019 |

Strange coincidence as I also just added a new 68030/40 GVP card to my Amiga 1200. Sadly I only have a feeble 4MB installed. I'll have to track down that chap on Amibay to max it out. In the meantime my 3.1 ROMs and CF adaptor should arrive on Monday and I can get WHDLoad set up.

I am going to play around with some RAM combinations today with the card to see if WHDLoad has taken a poo poo because of the 32MB RAM (lol)

Latest addition to the computer room right here The Sharp PC-4741, a PC XT compatible laptop from 1990. Comes with a blazing fast 10MHz NEC V20, 640K RAM, 40MB hard drive, single 1.44MB floppy drive, CGA compatible monochrome LCD display, carry handle, and a really heavy lead acid battery. It's in great condition, looks like it's hardly been used. Probably used two or three times then sat in a storeroom for decades. A modem card, second floppy drive and external composite video output were available as optional extras. This one didn't have any of those, as it would have added several hundred dollars to the $3,995.00 USD retail price, which when adjusted for inflation comes out to $7,842.00 USD, which gives you an idea of just how much cheaper modern computer hardware is.

I tried 8088mph on it, no success. I guess it needs real IBM CGA graphics. It does have a serial port that supports 9600 baud and it seems to run Kermit just fine, I might take it to work and configure network gear with it, just for the fun of it.

Newer hardware, but I installed Puppy Linux on a Toshiba laptop with a 300mhz Pentium II and got it online with a PCMCIA wireless card for similar reasons. The screen was 800x600 at best, and it took forever to load webpages, but I got it to work. I still have it around somewhere, I think - not much of a use case for the thing aside from the challenge of getting it work in the first place.
