FWIW, the NRA doesn't actually do much direct contribution to campaigns. They tend to exercise their influence over politicians indirectly, through PAC spending, lobbying, and general propaganda efforts. Which this would've been, if LaPierre hadn't been so keen to spell out the deal. I dunno, though, maybe with Trump you really do have to spell out the crimes in all caps before he understands that there's an exchange being suggested and you're not just giving him things.
