The POGGERS emote is an excited Pepe frog face so if you're from the side of the internet that sees Pepe as an alt-right icon, I guess it's an alt-right thing. There are a lot of Pepe emotes ingrained into Twitch culture though and nobody really sees them as political, they're just silly expressive frog faces.

On another note, Alister Jack is a loving ghoul and I seriously hope the SNP take our constituency back from him ASAP.

The Pepe frog icon was taken from Twitch as well as from other places. Twitch is a standard Internet community using normal memes, and when Pepe was pulled from there a lot of people wanted it back so they did - it's usually called monkaS now. There's also three billion varieties of Pepe altered to the themes of individual streamers, and I'm pretty sure there's a hybrid variant called frogChamp.

It was a lot whiter 25 years ago.

Old internet was tech nerds and academics discussing tech stuff. Middle internet was libertarian Western teens. New internet is Black Twitter and socialist shitposting plus a lot of middle internet people who are mad as hell about that. New new internet is bots and gammon comments.

what is a pog champ

floofyscorp
Feb 12, 2007

I looked up the origins of pogchamp/poggers recently because I had to explain to my manager why our youngest programmer says 'pogchamp' when he's excited about something.

It's silly. A streamer won a pog tournament and his expression of triumph was funny enough to turn into an emote. That's it.

I'm sure this is a dumb idea, but I'm not sure why: Caroline Lucas caretaker prime minister.

She seems well respected (by everyone other than Tories) and as an MP in a party of one she's not going to cause a weird power struggle. It would also mean that none of the main party's would "unfairly" benefit by briefly being in power.

Though I'm sure the Lib Dems would oppose.

From where I'm sat, old internet was all the open source guys saying information should be free man, plus the Loompanics mixed bag of drugs, porn, anarchism, and conspiracy theories, but it was very white and male skewed and not the most aware of its own biases.

Then the internet got commercialized, but was still the wild west a bit, so it was full of the "can't believe eBay won't let me buy a sten gun this is Stalinism" types, then came Black Twitter and trans folks and discussions of systemic effects, then came the Dork Enlightenment of people loving mad about that because you can't even say words on the internet now, then came
