You Are My Sunshine

Hm. My dad always hated pets, thus my siblings and I never had a dog or cat, just various small critters we could keep in cages or aquariums.

Then we all grew up and suddenly he bought his grandkids a puppy and now he loves the poo poo out of that dog. I mean we all do but I don't know what the gently caress happened. I guess I should just be happy he disqualified himself from being a complete Trumpish narcissist.

It's not so much Pelosi that worries me. It's that Trump's base isn't going to change their opinion no matter what, and I don't have faith in that other 20% of the country that voted for him to do anything meaningful about it either when it comes time to vote.

That's a Biden success story.

Why should she be in a rush, now that things are starting to shake loose they need to give it some time to gain momentum. Give the public time to shift more. More time for the Senate to feel the heat more time for Trump to confess to more crimes and more time for the Republicans to get sick and tired of him trashing the whatever narrative they are trying to build before they even begin to start using it.

Plus every time the Republicans whine about some sort of process thing or demand that she takes a vote or whatever and she just ignores them it demonstrates her power and their impotence and makes them look weak. And there is nothing more damaging to an authoritarian than looking weak.

She has the power position right now, she has the support of her caucus and she has command of the media attention and now she has the support of the electorate.

This is exactly what she needed to cause maximum damage to Trump and the GOP. She kept her powder dry and waited until she found the right moment to strike and he gave it to her and then he hosed up and keeps loving up.

There is no reason for her to rush to hand this over to the Republicans in the Senate.

Dude these people never had a chance.

Yeah there are racists, yeah there are just dipshit local tyrants, but the vast majority of the people in these communities are victims of their circumstances.

Whatever the root causes are, these are people born into a poo poo situation where they were never offered an alternative. The local systems never worked, the idea of college was either a pipe dream (in the 80s/90s) or a scam today, and they were fed total complete bullshit from the media.

Yes they're racist, yes they're misinformed, yes they vote against their own interest, but we have to believe that these problems can be fixed. Or else all these towns are just going to die, and they're going to vote this country into a poo poo hole on the way down.

I don't know where this is going. Yeah, it's easy to spit on people from rural areas for their actions, and I get it. But I've also worked in these communities. And I've seen these horrific parents bringing in their kids. Kid hasn't done anything wrong, just wasn't born in the right zip code. And then you look at the parents and realize that kid is hosed.

As long as these regions have outsized representation through the senate and house, we can't just look down on them as much as we need to drag them into modernity, kicking and screaming need be. The next democractic president, when they have the power, needs to invest shitzillions of dollars in these areas, and go out of their way to make sure the residents know who did it. Or else the last two people living in these places will vote for each other for senate and we'll be stuck with them.

Yeah I was thinking about this earlier, how he just kept talking so much poo poo at the Republican debates. If Jeb or Ted or whoever just confronted him, really got in his face or even threatened to punch him, Trump would never have gotten this far. Everyone remembers when Jeb slinked back like a beaten dog when Trump refused to apologize, “little Marco,” “lying Ted.” Imagine if one of them had just clocked him- they might be President right now.

I've spent a lot of time in extremely rural areas and yeah that's basically how they are. It's a bunch of mostly older people who are bitter and angry, hate change, are xenophobic etc. If they're younger, eg under 40, they're usually there essentially by choice because they consider it a plus to get to raise their children in some all-white bubble with no urban or cosmopolitan issues to consider. Generally no one is educated, maybe they have some highschool, but their highschools were horrible and 30 years of consuming fox hasn't helped.

It's sad because then there's a legit 15-30% of people who just want out but are tied down because of finances or aging family or they're taking care of the kids of a relative who is awol on drugs or whatever. It's bleak af.

Interesting that since as far back as Trump's election he has been pushing the idea that Obama has been putting cameras in his microwave, seeding fake protestors, fake voters, training Deep State agents to act against him yet isn't he having him arrested or investigated or... uhhh, anything? His supporters can't be afraid that leftists and liberals would retaliate because they're all soft soy boys and so on.
