How does that girl not have braces? It's the most obvious dumb joke a Roger Moore bond movie could make and they didn't do it

I'm so used to the older Bond films having really cheesy fist fights so seeing Lazenby with a good stunt double was rather surprising and welcome. Can't help but love that OHMSS opens by breaking the fourth wall and then Diamonds tries to retcon the whole film by suggesting that Bond had plastic surgery and recently undid it.

No the plastic surgery is in Diamonds, it’s just for Blofeld as Timby said. The fourth wall break if anyone was wondering was when Lazenby looks at the camera during the cold open and says “this never happened to the other fellow..”

I know the plastic surgery is in Diamonds, but the opening for From Russia has the Spectre agents training by hunting a man wearing a Sean Connery face mask.

Here's an article from Steven Soderbergh about OHMSS that's worth a read. I'm of the camp that says OHMSS wouldn't have worked with Connery for scenes where Bond needs to be vulnerable and emotional and Lazenby can. I went to the Piz Gloria in Switzerland in 2012 and they were still milking OHMSS merch for all it's worth, god bless 'em.Preston Waters posted:Why leave off Moonraker? It was my favorite Bond book, although I didn't read any past Diamonds are Forever lol Mainly because they still used Hugo Drax but yeah other than that they aren't remotely similar. I'm surprised they haven't gone for a more direct adaptation in some way actually. Gala Brand would make for an interesting Bond girl because she's married and doesn't sleep with him

I don't think Lazenby was an especially good or memorable Bond, but the scene at the end was where he was at his best. Brosnan would probably have also done a really good job with that scene.

I don't have an opinion on Lazenby because we only got one fuckin movie with the guy. He prob would have done better than Connery phoning it in during Diamonds.

Living Daylights is on right now and it still kicks major rear end. I love how Dalton keeps playing everybody in the movie to further his own ends. Everyone's out to double-cross each other and the Brave Mujahideen fighters of Afghanistan get to sell their opium and play Lawrence of Arabia and do their own Aqaba action scene. It's a shame License to Kill isn't as good, because Dalton is an excellent Bond and I wish he got more time. I also love Whitaker's callback to Connery counting shots in Doctor No. Arc Hammer fucked around with this message at 03:06 on Sep 27, 2019 |

I am a huge, huge License to Kill fan because it is essentially James Bond dismantling an entire south american drug operation just for personal revenge. It feels like Bond venting out all his pent up rage and doing some pretty nasty things to people just because he can and has the power to do so. I love it. I love that it is not a world at stake/empire at stake/peace at stake, it is just him being a scoundrel without any jurisdiction. I have always said I loved Roger Moore's bond the most during For Your Eyes Only and especially the scene where he kills Loqcue (which is a phenomenal bit of action) and License to Kill is a whole movie of that. It is easily my favourite Dalton and makes me wish he had been in more too.

I don't care much for License to Kill. It's not really a bad movie but it doesn't feel much like a spy film. It's more like someone transplanted James Bond into a Charles Bronson Death Wish style revenge movie.

I feel like you could say that about a lot of Bond films actually. Even the GOAT, From Russia With Love, has about 15 minutes in the middle that probably could've been cut. I actually find it to be part of the appeal, sometimes Bond just wanders around and meets a woman or hangs out with some weirdos, gives you a chance to relax and breathe for a minute without every scene having to be crucially important to the plot or a tense action scene.

The weird thing is that Moore didn't like the scenes where he played more of a heavy; at least in the case of the Loque scene (probably the tie flip too). He preferred the lighter, wisecracking interpretation. I don't have a problem with Moore as Bond, but some of his best moments were the darker ones. They were an antidote to some of the ridiculous content of his era.

I think it's just Roger Moore the person unable to separate himself from James Bond the character. It does make those brutal Bond moments stand out more. Hell I'd include when Bond rough houses whatsherface (Barbara Bach?) in Man with the Golden Gun in order to find out where the gold bullets are sent after she gets them. I bet Moore hated performing that one too.

He also divorced or something because of physical abuse from his then wife?

I'm loving the constant Bond on Pluto TV. I own all of the Bond movies, but there is a 0% chance that I'm going to be loading up Octopussy or Diamonds. Having a random Bond on at any moment lets me relive the TBS Bondathon days from when I was 11 years old. Edit: Like the Moonraker pigeon double take I saw just now. Without constant Bonds in the background, I probably would have never remembered that happened for the rest of my life. The Human Crouton fucked around with this message at 09:12 on Oct 5, 2019 |

Like Carole Bouquet in "For Your Eyes Only." I didn't appreciate her back when I was a teenager. I was into the blonde instead Also, I had a complete false memory about the ending of "Live And Let Die." I swear I remember Bond using that magnum at the end and firing off like 10 shots without reloading. However when I watched it this morning, he correctly threw the gun away after his 6. For me, Casino and Skyfall are top tier Bond movies, Quantum is good, and Spectre is middling with some standout moments. Craig’s tenure has been my favorite insofar as the tone of the films, the cinematography, and the way he plays the character. They have a potential lock on a great villain for this next one, so my hopes remain high.

How the gently caress did Spectre end up costing a quarter of a billion dollars to make? (Budget estimates range from $245m to $300m.) There's nothing in it - on screen, at least - bigger or more spectacular than anything done by the previous movies, in most cases on a small fraction of the budget. (Inflation-adjusted, the budgets of TSWLM and Moonraker are $59m and $120m.) I guess they were shovelling money at Craig and Mendes, neither of whom especially wanted to come back, and the producers obviously wanted to be well paid for their time too.

Well, from what I remember, that underwhelming but absurdly huge base explosion they did during what seemed like a dream sequence of Bond escaping while in god mode after being held captive in a deadly dentists chair by Blofeld, well that was practical, and they actually blew that all up. and like, nobody could loving tell because it pretty much felt like nothing in the movie. I have to suspect its stuff like that that cost them a lot of money. Extravagant practical effects and locations that were poorly used.

Yeah, that explosion actually set some sort of record for its size or something at the time. I think from the Sony leaks a lot of it was all of the foreign locations. Hauling everyone and everything across the world is super expensive even if it doesn’t show up on screen very well.
