It was legitimately the movie that made me go “oh wow, Julia Roberts isn’t interested in being America’s sweetheart anymore at all”.

She also has a great story about seeing it in London and the theatre bringing out ice cream for a treat during the intermission and her being like “uh, what” to the idea of having ice cream in the middle of a dark, harsh play about relationships

Ice cream was not appropriate is not a statement I ever expected to ever read but here we are.

Man I just think they don't know how to market it (and therefore cut a trailer for it).

A movie about bringing your dead dad back to life for a single day (and have one of the sons meet him for the very first time) is some really heavy poo poo. And, while I'm sure they'll lean heavy on the emotion, that just looks like some sort of slapstick road trip bro movie.

Yeah, I'm hoping that's just a bad trailer, because Pixar taking on material like that could be great...but that really is a bad trailer. It makes me way less interested in seeing the movie.

I'd like to see more of him, too. I was sort of disappointed he didn't play a larger role as Charles Manson in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

He also played Manson in season 2 of Mindhunter. There was a show called Quarry a couple years ago that only got one season. He played a gay hitman alongside that guy who looks like Tom Hardy. I recommend watching it.

I expected bad, but I didn't expect embarrassing.

e: I've read that the tone was one of the main thing changed in all of the reshoots. I don't know if it was family comedy before or if it was serious drama before, but geez, nobody can be happy with this mix.

My partner used to do background checks for senior hires at these Fortune 500 companies. It baffles me that $100+ million movie productions hire the equivalent of a CEO without even the most basic professional due diligence.

It's like when Kathleen Kennedy hires "the comedy improv guys" for Solo, a movie produced by a mouldy skeleton whose most famous quote is "if it's not on the page, it's not on the screen", then wonders why she's gotta hire Opie to reshoot everything a month later. IDGI.

You would think they would do their research when making director hiring decisions at this budget level. But nooooo, let's just give the movie to this Josh Trank guy, he seems smart.

Teenage Fansub

The director wrote it, so they probably liked the pitch/script and assumed he'd be okay since he's experienced and maybe hasn't had any public complaints against him before.

I love this just from a pet-owner standpoint, because as much as my dog is my life, he’s also massively anxious around lots of people, so the answer is that I’m cautious and play to his needs in what environments I take him to. What I DON’T do is not only provoke the little fucker but destroy my workplace by taking him with me and creating constant pandemonium, no matter how much I like his company!

Except that was probably going to be good and was not good because Kennedy and Opie killed it.

Lord & Miller were a great choice I thought. Wish I could see what that would have been in an alternate universe.

I enjoyed the final product enough for a side film, but yeah I really wish we'd seen what L&M would've done with it. The idea you would hire guys like that then get pissy when they put their stamp on it says a lot to how the business end is run.
