Thanks. I've found the Iron Golems are a bit slow in games - but the Ogre is an absolute beast. It just annoys me that my favourite IG model (the chaos dwarf, naturally) has such a low movement.

Some folks from my group are getting all into the Mercenaries from the recent expansion, and the Darkoath Warqueen has a cool double ability that increases Move by +1 for all friendlies within 6” - seems like a good addition to the Golems. I want to try and build a model that can proxy for her based on a spare Golem model.

The Golems are cool but also have sooo many little detail, trim and spike bits and pieces that I just gave up at a point and called them done.

Maybe I'll go back and actually finish them up properly at some point.

Welp, I noticed my preorder for the big $120 Lizardmen BB team bundle hadn’t shipped, so I shot GW an email asking what’s up. Turns out the pitch was sold out and they offered to ship the rest of my order, sans the bundle. So like, the magazine and the red extra dice, and some glue. No lizard anything. No offer to alter the order and ship everything but the pitch.

I placed my preorder over a week in advance, and was immediately charged for it. Now the dice, the pitch, and the cards are sold out, and I’m basically told to go gently caress myself by a custom service rep I had to contact when my poo poo never got sent out. I’m sure they’ll take their sweet rear end time getting me my refund.

My enthusiasm for this game is waning. I don’t think I’m gonna bother ordering direct from GW anymore, at the very least. Very disappointing.

The issue surrounding stock of Specialist Games accessories (dice, pitches, cards, Spike mags) is getting out of hand. These items were relisted at a 300% markup on eBay before release day was even over. Your story suggests that it’s not just a matter of scalpers hoovering up everything they can get their hands on but that there is a real supply issue in terms of the amount of product they prepare.

Factor in the shocking state of the rules release that happened at the same time and yes, GW have really dropped the ball on this.

That's another thing that's bothered me. Why the hell are the accessories so damned expensive? A deck of cards for $30, a playing board for $45, that's WAY more than the cost of most board games that come with significantly more stuff nowadays. I'm a ridiculous collector and hobbyist though, so I could swing it since I'm not likely to buy a ton of these. But you're right, the supply being so small that everything's gone from the website and marked up on eBay before release day, and that's ridiculous.

I think there are a couple of factors in play - first of all, GW obviously does small runs of these things, which equates to them being more expensive. I fully get that they don't want niche items sitting on shelves for years, but I also think they greatly underestimate the quantity needed.

Second, GW knows that these niche games are very popular (especially with the nostalgia crowd) and knows that people will suck it up and pay $30 for a deck of cards that cost them maybe $5. In addition, those cards, boards, and accessories aren't necessary to play the game - they might make things a little easier, but you don't need them (everything is in the Spike! issue, correct?) They're almost like vanity items, and you have to expect that you'll pay more for them.

On the flip side, we all want to see people get paid a fair wage, and, at least with the SG studio, they're always talking about adding a new sculptor, or a new rules guy. So yeah, poo poo's expensive, but GW is doing a good job of putting out games and models I want to give them money for.

Where are you seeing the markup? Everything BB Lizardman related seems to be selling at or below retail on EBay US, as far as I can tell.

On a side note, I don't know why anyone would order from GW itself, unless they were forced to. Every FLGS I know of can get the upcoming stock (including direct only,) and actually makes some money off the transaction, thereby keeping them in business and giving you some place to go and play. Buying from GW directly gives them 100% of the sale, and doesn't give your local store anything.

On eBay UK the going rate for a set of the new lizardmen dice seems to be £34 and there are multiple sellers hawking them at this price.

I haven’t looked at the pitch or the Spike mag but I know that all three are sold out both at LFGS’s and GW direct. Yes, you can preorder via most LFGS but Reynold’s preorder experience would seem to have taken place regardless of who he ordered from as the stuff has all been snapped up.

Edit: I’m particularly unimpressed at the ‘magazine’ AKA rulebook for the new product - the only place for the foreseeable future where the rules for the new team are officially available. And because GW have added a new positional player this actually matters unlike most of the recently released teams. Fortunately the rules are super simple so it’s not impossible just to ‘know’ that Chameleon skinks cost X and that they have Y and Z skills.

I checked eBay for the extras, and other than the standard sub $30 team, everything else lizards is above MSRP, with dice being over double. But then I saw the generic red dice for $15 shipped and the Nurgle pitch for $33 shipped and said gently caress it, Nurgle it is. I really just needed extra dice and another pitch for my game night (running two games at once, and I’d prefer a pitch from a team I own), and I figured a new team release was the time to grab them. I was wrong. I’m sure I’ll get around to the lizards eventually, but it’s gonna be the rotters accompanying my base game for now.

I'm not a huge fan of bashy playstyles, and the frenzy lineman is just me testing out poo poo. High elves are the ones I like the most of the teams in Vanilla BB2, and I think it's part because they're all AG4. Is that why people call it elf bullshit?

Yeah, Elf bullshit tends to be stuff like tricksy Agility-based plays that scoot the ball a crazy amount of distance down the pitch in a single turn; it’s enabled by every player on an Elf team being a decently competent ball-handler even without any skills.

That said High Elves seem to be the least hated Elf team due to being less of an optimal starting lineup than Dark Elves and lacking the extreme pace of Woodies. They are my favourite Elf team and their long-term development is a lot of fun.

Sounds like you might like Skaven? Gutter Runners are a special kind of Elf Bullshit, and the rest of the team is pretty flexible in terms of playstyle. Mutations lead to some fun build opportunities.

And Elf bullshit is nothing compared to proper Skaven bullshit. Oh, what's that, I ran the ball the entire length of the field in a single turn? That's just too bad for you.

Yes, the Battlegroup box (if you can find one) is a great place to start and a great bargain. The Grandmaster box however was a great bargain but had 2 warlords and 2 banners of quaestoris knights, which isn’t awesome.

Titanicus is actually pretty cheap compared to 40k and most other GW money pits. The Grandmaster Edition was not a great intro for the system, because it had a completely suboptimal set of miniatures in it, and yes, was eye-wateringly expensive as a starter set.

Cracking games of Necromunda yesterday. My opponent wanted to contract an alliance with the Corpse Guild (rules are in Book of Peril) so I set up a customised version of the Escort Mission. He would have a guild Procurator and one bodyguard (the full party seemed like a major advantage) and had to get them off the board.

Imgur post with pics and description: https://imgur.com/gallery/4RZXlEv

Basically we both had appalling luck at the beginning. I rolled something like 4 1s in a row on my opening shooting to-hit rolls, most of which were 2+!

Then his Iron Automata, which is a beastly Brute model from the Book of Judgment, went insane on its second activation, just as it was about to charge and pulverise one of my Champs.

I really thought I'd had it as more of my gangers went down at first, and his Leader escorted the target right up to the exit point. Fortunately a ganger turned up as a reinforcement, charged the enemy Leader and took her out with his power axe. Bodyguard charged him, he tanked it and cut him down. Failed the charge on his Procurator (Fearsome), but what a hero! Together with some other shooting results coming through, it swung my way and the target was hunted down.

We then played a shootout which I was sure I'd lose - he had 4 models to my 3 and one of his was the Iron Automata. Somehow with lucky going wild I managed to win. Everyone got loads of experience and a great time was had.

We've both got pretty tooled up Venator armies now. His are sort of bizarre Mercenaries, mine are themed as an Inquisition team. Really cool stuff available in terms of toys and elite stats on both sides.
