on the last chapo zizek basically layed out that supporting bernie is the most traditionalist, family oriented thing you could do. dude was kinda all over the place but I understood what he mean't about how socialists probably finding more success in appealing to peoples desire for stability and peace. Capitalism is the subversion essentially. he is at core a pessimist though and i think he's more critical of bernie and this left-populist thing, but i think what he's saying is that bernie is appealing to these declassed urban service sector workers. they are socially liberal, but they want to start families too, right? you can't afford to as it is. and their class interest is going to be more in line with the rural and exurban equivalents, most of whom don't vote either. like trump's base is really with these better-off workers and PMCs (professional-managerial class) in their respective areas... blue-collar management and small biz as opposed to urban service-sector professionals who will favor hillary or warren

all of which is to say that zizek correctly identifies your personal means and the means you grew up with as being a much more useful class identifier than where you live or your race or whatever. of course poor urban workers who can barely afford rent have a lot in common with poor rural workers who can barely afford rent. They have a lot less in common with like, the district manager that is marginally comfortable but still is technically working class
