I think what makes the Kanye thing such an issue is that it was basically the equivalent of a day 1 patch instead of a reissue of something released years earlier. The annoying thing with TLoP is if he'd just done what he did with Yeezus for TLoP, specifically getting an outside producer to help him lock it down both in composition and sequence with a hard deadline (it doesn't even have to be Rick Rubin either, just someone Kanye will take seriously,) there wouldn't be any patching, and the release would be better regarded for it. I'm kind of hoping the fact that he's iterated so hard on his new record means that he's able to avoid his recent rushed work, but it may not be unfair to say the last Kanye album where he was able to actually execute on his grand ideas without patching or major rework at the last minute by an outside producer was MBDTF. That's a fine criticism of his process at least.
