The Trump cover story: there was no quid pro quo.

Sondland: I don’t recall what Trump said.

Yeah there's going to be some criminal referrals for perjury to Congress and second batches of testimony.

Like this is basically Sondland saying THERE WAS NO QUID PRO QUO, JUST A FAVOR/ADVANTAGE GRANTED/EXPECTED IN RETURN FOR SOMETHING, then suddenly clamming up and not recalling in a congressional deposition.

Cool, this is insanely damning and I have no faith in the GOP to actually do anything other than attempt to obfuscate and make this the new norm, and next to no faith the Dems will do a loving thing about it :(

Democrats slightly overperformed in 2018 because it was more or less a slam dunk. This Ukraine thing is basically a ball, hovering just above the rim, requiring nothing more than a pinky to slam down. Even the weakfuck House centrists are acting like HELL YEAH IMMA PUT THIS gently caress ON A POSTER.

Plus, polls are at 50% +- 5% on impeachment, and even close on removal. Worst case, they Benjamin Ghazi the gently caress out of this thing.

Edit: I mean, look at this poo poo for how much stuff has completely turned on this story -

I would argue this has had more staying power, especially since it prompted an impeachment inquiry into existence.

Like, I'm still severely skeptical that Trump is removed from office (which he absolutely should) but this isn't just Trump being an rear end in a top hat and saying something outrageous. Or even pursuing poo poo policy. People are getting it.

Something interesting about this that the PSA guys mentioned on the episode that went up today was that while this is realistically the only defense Republicans can offer, the problem for them is that Trump is so impossibly vain that he takes any critique as a direct attack, and will attack them back. So they're stuck in a dilemma that their 'best' defense is also the one least acceptable to the person they are trying to defend.

Be sadder that this all blew wide the hell open because some Intel whistleblower made noise. None of these other fuckers, even the good ones, ever bothered to make any noise to Congress about any of this poo poo.

And I wouldn't be too sure about the congressional subpoena blowoff. With how clear poo poo is developing, Democrats could very easily stretch this poo poo out and litigate the subpoenas and get quick court orders. What killed Nixon was audiotapes - maybe that secret server has audiotapes, or morecrimes1.txt through morecrimes7.txt.

Taylor only testified today because he was subpoenaed. So I guess that's a minor mattering.

So what if it does? Will the base then abandon him? It's been admitted to on live national television to the entire world already. We're past the point where it matters. So, so much more than it should have taken for the mattering is already documented fact, but the propaganda won't stop just because even more poo poo has been proven. People are flipping like pancakes to cover their own asses because they know how this is going to go down. They're the little guys that will get thrown to the " " "justice" " " system wolves, while nobody at the top doing this poo poo will be held accountable.

Hi. Normally when things like this happens, you're right, it's forgotten within a week because the President shoots diarrhea into a press gaggle or something.

It's been almost six weeks of this story. It's not going away. And it's only getting worse. Polling shows people who usually move on because of some other stupid poo poo are still following it, which surprises me too, but gently caress it, I'll take whatever we can get at this point.

I don't think he's going to be removed by the senate, but it sure as gently caress isn't helping him get reelected.

This is the part that makes me nervous, I feel like there's a not insignificant number of older democrats (GenX and up) that have been solidly conditioned for their entire lives that ~socialism~ is the devil and who would rather stay home on election day then vote for Bernie/Warren. Likewise, I've had disillusioned Trump people imply to me that they'd stay home if Biden is the nominee but they'll vote if there's a danger that a "socialist" would win. Assuming they're being serious, which is a big if obviously.

Oh I totally agree. I honestly think that no matter the nominee (except for maybe Biden), you're going to get hand wringing from idiots about *~socialism~* being ushered in by said candidate. At that point, gently caress it. Go hog wild, because they said the same stupid poo poo about Obama and look how that turned out.

I don't think spin is the right way to victory. Republicans will win the propaganda war, because they don't care about anything except making their voters so angry and scared that they go vote. Democrats care about poo poo like stats, The Truth, and not painting the Republicans as the people who would sell you, your children, and your childrens childrens to the 1% if they only had a few more states to call a constitutional convention to write the 14th out of existence.
