It is based on the models I have at hand. with these units left over (I can get another vehicles/infantry if it will make or break list) 7x Plague Marines 20x Poxwalkers Death Guard Special HQs goodness fucked around with this message at 18:44 on Oct 25, 2019 |

Exactly how hard and fast would I get the hammer brought down on me for using 3rd party head bits in a gw shop? I really would like to do a tallarn army and unless I want to spend a fortune on ebay, it would take outside parts to achieve. I hear some places are more lenient than others but what are the odds. Glasgow if anyone has personal experience.

Pretty sure head swaps are fine, especially if the rest is a GW model. If they're being anal about that then I'd probably suggest staying away from it in the future and find someplace else to play. I think the rule of thumb is that 80 to 85% of the model needs to be GW or somesuch.

Glasgow if anyone has personal experience. It's up to the store manager. Surprisingly, GW doesn't dictate the specifics on this. It generally ranges from "As long as most of the model is GW, you're fine" to "If that trigger finger didn't come with that specific kit, then you are out of regulations, dear sir/madam!"

It's a shame, I suppose I'll just have to sound them out next time I'm in. To be honest if I couldn't use them I might be inclined to go fully 3rd party for guardsmen squads rather than adding a few bits to gw kits 🤷♀️

So essentially I should probably do cadians if I want to play guard at gw and then bankrupt myself collecting beautiful 3rd party shelf queens to stare wistfully at.

No you should ask the GW store employee what their policy is and if you don't like it go somewhere else with your cool dudes.

My local GW (Tucson, AZ) is fairly reasonable so long as the basic chassis of the model is GW. Like, there are definitely horror stories, but again, this is at the store's discretion, so there's no point in getting your hair up until you've asked them.

I know my local GW is even more forgiving and actually stated 51%+ GW is the threshold. That said I have separate issues with that store like barring terrain from being moved between tables. Better hope you enjoy playing with zero LoS blockers.

To be honest its not a big deal, I have a couple of other factions on the go. The concept of the guard appeals to me, it's just the cadian kit is definitely showing its age. I suppose I'd be happier building the guys I want to build rather than worrying about whether I can bring them into a shop, 3rd party sculpters are putting out some really nice stuff. I do wonder what the guard get in psychic awakening though.

If the Emperor had no issue using his sons like chess pieces and knew Horus was beyond all saving with all four Chaos gods pumping into him why didn't he just kill the guy outright the moment they met on the ship

Up until recently in the grand scheme of things we didn't know much about the emperor or the primarchs on a personal level. The story of the Horus Heresy was always told in really broad strokes, detached from any personal connection to the characters. The idea of him seeing his sons as tools is mostly the work of Master of Mankind and how they intend to compromise this with him hesitating to kill Horus is to be seen as the Horus Heresy novels are wrapping up with the Siege of Terra very soon.

Was this the Pinecrest Point store? That’s nuts. In the area I would recommend Event Horizons in Garner, they have a 40k night on Tuesdays, I think that crowd is more competitive ITC focused; and Gamers Armory in Cary which is a bit chiller, they do game days on most Saturdays.
