Kinda? We know she’s loyal to the actual village Chief and not Old Man McTraitor.

The anime’s got me hooked. How might I go about catching up on the manga in the least-illegal way possible? The manga plus app says the any chapters but the first and last three are “not available in this app”.

Subscribe to the Official Shonen Jump App. Its $2/month, you can have something like 100 chapters downloaded at a time or read several whole series online.

the shonen jump app is pretty basic but you can't argue with the price. I sub to it and it's nice.

I want more Dr. Stone but as beautiful as Boichi's art is, Inagaki's writing is what makes the series as good as it is. I have not heard much praise for Boichi's solo work besides the art. I hope that supervisory role is more than it sounds like.

Boichi’s solo work is great. The story, foreshadowing, jokes, and overall themes are really solid. There’s only two major flaws. Boichi is a legit hentai artist and he makes porny chapters every now and then. And he gets bored after about 150 chapters so his works end abruptly. I don’t think either of those problems will matter for this spin-off.

The problems however are exactly as Billzasilver says.

Senku "Gonna count the seconds for two months just in case a perfect internal chronometer will help advance my scientific career" Ishigami. A lot of what Senku does is just applied knowledge and basic problem solving, so it's cool to see actual Big Brain poo poo from him. Like in the latest chapter where he calculated, not predicted, the endpoint of Kirisame's throw in based on launch angle and velocity and concluded that she was including her allies in the blast radius. Ryusui intuited it, but Senku knew it.

I'll be following the spin-off. I guess my only reservation about this is that Byakuya's story was pretty much done in Dr. Stone so I don't know this spin-off can even add anything new to it.

Maybe it'll explain how entire villages full of people exist in the current series when supposedly only six people avoided getting stoned. The inbreeding would have been a bitch no matter how optimal they were about it.

Ryusui had some solid moments in this chapter. They had him operate the drone because of his expertise in steering and winddirection, it makes some sense for him to feel like something is off. But I also can't help but notice that during the getaway he's apparently caught Suika and helps her get to safety...again.

Yeah, I'm a little confused how this is going to be a full spin-off. I feel like the anime summed up the entirety of Byakuya's story in the last two episodes pretty effectively.

There’s three thousand years of history between Byakuya and Senku. I’m sure the spinoff will find something to pass the time.

Inbreeding is not uncommon amongst animal populations, it only really mattered in the context of nobility and royalty because you had generations screwing each other so the father of someones child might have also been their grandfather, and great grandfather etc. In addition inbreeding only really matters if a society is advanced and robust enough that offspring with majority negative traits can be supported by the group and continue to pass on those negatives. In a primative setting where survival day to day is not assured for really anyone there is less of an issue of that.

You just couldn't hope to stay above replacement level with a starting population of six, even assuming the inbreeding depression was relatively mild and all of them were cool with loving like rabbits. It's more likely there was a second group that avoided petrification. Maybe by being underwater?

I think that would give you a lot of leeway.

They were absolutely not the only group. The people on Soyuz's island (especially Soyuz himself) don't have the common theme of physical features you can see looking at the six survivors and then the Ishigami Village gang. Though it's also worth mentioning that Senku being the first awakened person is just an assumption.

What made Senku special was that he figured out how to unpetrify people. There have probably been lots of people who awakened before, but they can’t breed by themselves.

Plus, not everyone is gonna have the survival skills to live in the stone world (or even a few centuries after the collapse), short of Bear Gryls or some amazon tribesman unstoning, they'd be dead in a week of exposure and dehydration.
