Hadn't watched Fire Maidens from Outer Space in a while. Geeze, it's a slog. The Timmy stuff still sort of creeps me out, but it saves the episode.

One episode I have trouble with is the Creeping Terror. The film is absolutely unwatchable. Nothing happens, most of the dialog is handled by the narrator, and there are so many scenes that are literally just B-Roll. Like, I know 50s films loved their dance scenes, but 10 minutes of that feels like an eternity.

They try, but you can only do so much with very little. They honestly should have cut the film to shreds and gotten a short to fill out the rest of the episode.

It does have the 'Mike the audiophile' sketch, though, so it's not a total loss.

The Creeping Terror is actually one of my favorites. I loved Kevin losing it as the terror ate a victim who clearly had to climb inside on her own, as Mike says “If you could give me a hand by climbing in here I’d appreciate it”.

There used to be books that highlighted awful movies called the Golden Turkeys, and I remember one of them bestowing the honor of worst movie ever to The Creeping Terror. It had a really in depth article on the making of the movie, everything that went wrong with it, and how a walking carpet monster conveyed sexual imagery as it ate hapless women.

That movie is kind of like Samaurai Cop, in that it's all goofy fun when riffed but when you watch it without riffs you quickly realize it's just a low budget softcore porn.

Years ago I read in a book that Universal did a whole bunch of "I Was a Teenage [insert monster here]" movies. I'd love to see Rifftrax or new MST take one of those on.

You know what? The first like twenty minutes of the Crawling Hand is actually a pretty compelling and creepy cosmic horror story. You start in media res with them already having lost contact with the space capsule and they've got the unsettling, machine-like countdown of remaining oxygen going in the background as they try and figure out what the gently caress is going on and then long after the astronaut should be dead, he contacts them screaming "KILL ME" and the scientist are like "well...I think we're burning that tape..." A nice, weird episode of TV that had the tragic misfortune to be stretched into a full length feature film. Cue Rod Serling: "Look, space is scary and sometimes weird poo poo happens for no apparent reason. The universe is cold and indifferent to you. Have fun sleeping tonight."

"There was a Letterman's jacket in my stool this morning!" Great episode. The barn dance is wonderfully nonsensical.

Also "He's legitimately scientific! Uses hypnotism!" That whole string of past-life regression movies in season 8 were trippy.

Me too, and Circus of Horror, lot of fun. Circus of Horror is one of those peculiar bad movies where you're not sure who the main characters were supposed to be even when it's over.

Seemed like the bits were a little better in the second show, since they were warmed up.
