When I visited the Udvar-Hazy museum in Virginia, I was kinda blown away by the size of the shuttle itself. It's enormous. It's hard to get a sense of scale just by watching videos of it. It was one of the first aircraft I saw up close as a kid aside from little 4-seater Cessnas, and I was secretly a little bit disappointed at the time. I mean, it's not tiny, but it does feel shockingly small if you see it with the expectation that any military aircraft is going to be big and cool and awesome (I've since gotten over that disappointment, it's a really cool jet to see in person).
