State Fair had a few old-timey saw mills and such being demonstrated. There's plenty of moving belts in there, and that chain going through the pile of sand with spurs off the sides of the links.

I think it was the pulp drying machine at the tissue mill I interned at that was original 30s vintage machinery. The steam engine was long replaced with an electric motor but it still used transmission belts to drive every rotor. They'd been mostly safety caged but there were a few sections where the entire machine was just caged off because there was no smart way to separate moving and static.

One time my wife bought a cheap mandolin. I came home and saw her struggling to slice a potato or something on it. I snatched it from her, saying, "Give me that. You'll hurt yourself." and then tried it myself, IMMEDIATELY slicing a nice hunk off my thumb. Fortunately, I maintained the presence of mind to use the comedy timing, holding out my mangled and bloody thumb to her: "See?!"

My coworker was tasked with reverse engineering a fence making machine of about that vintage. A single motor drove a complex series of pulleys and gears going around the entire machine to drive five or six movements all timed by cams. It's really impressive to see how it works, especially since it was designed way before CAD was a thing. He pulled most of the gears out and replaced them with a few servo motors timed by a computer. So much simpler! It, too, is completely caged and covered in light curtains.

Nah, better pay a ton of money to poor people to gently caress up yourself only on a dumb mountain.
