Question about the book store curse

I assumed part of the 'curse' is the enormous fridge in the basement everyone has been paying the extra electricity for. I could unplug it but not mention it to anyone (book store owner, chimney dice maker). Just a red herring or some other way to interact with it?

That fridge is important, but not for the reason you think. It is not the source of the curse, despite how menacing it is :v:

You need the bear fridge for something, don't unplug it until after that's done. You do want to unplug the other one (red ice-cream maker), though.

My only game over was from intentionally shooting myself lol I never got one from a bad roll . Didn't think he'd do it . As far as morale and health go I played pretty cautiously (and cut it REALLY close in the end of the second half of the map when I found Ruby)

So, just wrapped up the game. Honestly I felt like meeting the Phasmid and the entire sequence involving said Phasmid was a better ending than the actual ending, AKA "Hey's let's go to Jamrock the end". It felt a bit abrupt for my tastes. Otherwise, great game and one of my favorites this year.

Just finished this tonight, goddamn is it good!

In retrospect I shouldn't have taken the Thought that makes you fail all red checks right before the military tribunal, but it did indirectly lead to recruiting detective Kuuno de Ruyter so it wasn't all bad!

Question about after the point of no return: At the tribunal, there's a third merc besides the scab leader and the radio operator. He had never come up before and Kim and Harry were totally surprised to see him. Did I miss something somewhere, or is his presence a surprise no matter what you do?

Joyce will warn you about him if you talk to her at the right time. Not sure how much difference that makes to the outcome though

Oh, that makes sense. I had talked to Joyce enough to get a bit about how there's something she'll only say right before she leaves Martinaise, and I missed that window. Next time!

Ruby will tell you about the third merc too, if you talk with her long enough. Don't know how it affects the tribunal, though, because the one time I got the info from her, I ran out of medicine and died from her death ray.

I've still gotta catch up from, uh, page 10 of the thread, but.

I just finished the game today and it's probably the best game I've ever played. Jesus, what a ride. I don't know how many variations there are for how things can go, but man I can't wait to play it again.

There's so many things I still want to pick at that I never really "solved" -- like, what the gently caress is the Pale, and what are the holes in reality?, and did the Phasmid really have Lilianovich under its spell?, and where does that red-check bunker on the peninsula lead to, the island?. So many things to explore in a second playthrough.

Also, regarding the confrontation with the mercs: I assume there's a way to get through it with no one getting hurt, because in my run, six of the Union members, including Titus, died. I was pretty torn up about that, but I was playing with basically no reloading except for a couple of times where I mis-clicked, so I ran with it.

I was a very *boring* communist this time through, high Perception, Logic, Visual Calculus, and Physical Instrument -- generic regular cop stuff. Next time I'm gonna go wild -- the game is great at hinting what other builds might be like, and I'm ruminating on a few that seem really fun -- I never delved into the Shivers/Half-Light/Electrochemistry route, so that may be my next focus.

Anyway! It's great, and I'm really blown away.

I'm not sure what the "best" outcome for the climactic Tribunal is but the coolest I've seen involves you wearing the necktie from the beginning of the game and holding a bottle of Pale Liquor and your necktie convincing you to sacrifice it by using it to make a Pale Molotov Cocktail during the fight . Can't really imagine anything more badass than that. I'm pretty sure you getting shot is inevitable but Titus can definitely be saved and other characters too I imagine

I need this soundtrack. Is the piece when you set food on (endgame) the island original or from another source?

Also, (endgame) as much as it sucks that Kim can get shot, Detective Cuno is incredible and I love the 'Cuno, what is ICM?' exchange where he says: "'Idiot Cat Moon. Inside Car Motors. Is Cuno Magic? He is - case closed!'"

This game is wonderful. After so many years of RPGs that apparently promote choice but actually punish you for being anything other than a good guy, a game that actually does reward different approaches is amazing. I like that they realised how people play and put mechanics in to poke players into changing it up too.

I got told I was being boring cop (which was still fun tbf) and since then I morphed into superstar, communist, anti-drugs drug addict cop and I love it.

Only on day 4 but I already can't wait to start a second playthrough going heavy on electrochemistry.

When Kim gets shot, Cuno is there in your room and you can take him with you. It's interesting to me that either outcome of this feels really fitting and thematic when you go into the endgame. The writing in this game is just stellar.
