The concept of ownership is the way to keep assholes from walking up and taking the food and property you need to survive, even though they don't need it. The fact that it gets extended to things you don't strictly need is a reasonable followup proposition; if I make a lovely painting to honor my wife of ten years, it sucks to have someone else roll up and take it, because it goes against the intended purpose of the item, and also I don't get the pleasure of looking at the painting anymore.

This is what the whole thing of personal properly vs private property is meant to address. You can and should have nice things you can enjoy as well as food, medicine and a roof over your head and be able to rely on them still being there tomorrow.

Maybe instead of saying "abolish private property," then, which literally means "abolish private ownership of tangible objects," you should say something more accurate, like "abolish rent-seeking behavior"

a lot of coms and socs are really resistant to changing terms that were coined by the founders of the movement. that's why even a lot of non-tankie communists still use the hammer and sickle even though it condemns them to half an hour of explaining that "*no*, I don't like Stalin or his politics, I just want to end wage slavery and abolish the income gap". i agree, it's definitely a problem
