Nah, better pay a ton of money to poor people to gently caress up yourself only on a dumb mountain.

I mean, at the very least he could have done it on train-tracks that don't intersect a road. That way if he ends up getting shredded he won't cause an intersection to be closed down for a few hours.

Also, Texas is really bad about having too many at-grade railroad crossings.

When the trains aren't actively cutting vehicles in half, they're blocking roads and causing traffic tie-ups.

In nearly all cases, though, the trains were there first. The road builders should be the ones building the viaducts.

They're fine for things where one or the other isn't used very frequently. Rural roads that see like three cars a day, or spur lines that see one train a year, that sort of thing.

If both the track and the road are heavily used then it's a recipe for disaster.

In heavily urbanized areas, grade crossings have been removed wherever possible for the last hundred years or so because they kill a LOT of people. It was a big problem even before cars - people just love getting run over by trains, and if it's physically possible for them to do so, they will. Trains, too, don't generally like hitting things, so it's to everyone's advantage that grade crossings be eliminated.

Austin is especially bad about this. Right now there are two tracks going through the city that are used 4+ times a day and cross several very active roads. It's such a mess that the train companies are actively trying to build tracks that bypass the city but have had a hell of a time trying to get the necessary land. For example, this at-grade crossing is near the intersection of two major traffic arteries.

SUCK A MALE CAMEL'S DICK WITH MIRACLE WHIP!!
Niagara Falls also has a train track that kinda cuts the city in half. People have been bitching about ti for years, but its kinda hard with trains not liking grades so much. A lot of the crossings are fairly close together, so they couldn't build a rail overpass at each one, it would have to be a continuous overpass for several kilometers, which of course costs way more money to build and maintain. There is also not a lot of room to build bridges for the cars to go over the tracks, because there is development and driveways or road intersections close to the crossings which would add to cost and complexity of building bridges over the tracks. Also, who pays for that? The RR would probably be all, "well, you guys want to build bridges over OUR CROSSINGS? Sure no problem, you pay".

Extremely annoying. There are 4‐5 more of these at-grade crossings through equally busy areas north and south as well.

I was actually trying to figure out from the video if he was doing that on Banister.

There are now 28 advance warning signs and five height detection devices around both sides of this bridge, but its lust for trucks is stronger. Our road death toll is way up this year as well, come to think of it, so maybe we collectively all just forgot how to drive this year or something.

I've noticed drivers where I live have gotten really bad this year. Complete lack of turn signals, no one stops at stop signs anymore, unable to stay in the lines. Might be a global phenomenon.

You're safe here.

A man stuck upside down at the top of a 290ft former mill chimney in Carlisle "has not responded" to rescuers for some time, police said.

Emergency services were called to Dixons Chimney in Carlisle at about 02:20 GMT and a helicopter has been hovering near the top of the structure.

Footage from the scene appears to show a figure with his legs in the air.

quote:

Superintendent Matt Kennerley said: ‘The male has stopped responding, hasn’t responded to us for a number of hours. ‘We are exceptionally concerned, but we are still treating this as a rescue effort. That’s the right thing to do and we’re just going to keep going. ‘At this time, we’ve got all the specialist resources and emergency services here on site and we’re just going to do our best in what is probably one of the most difficult rescues I’ve ever encountered. ‘We are looking at various options to rescue this man safely. ‘So far the multi-agency response has seen us utilise technology including drones. ‘A helicopter has been used to try to rescue the man and efforts have been made to try to drop a technical rescue team onto the chimney to rescue him.

‘These two attempts have not been successful so far due to concerns over how securely the man is attached to the ladder at the top of the chimney – and the potential danger of backdrafts from the helicopter. ‘These concerns over how securely he is attached have also prevented us from sending someone up the ladder from the bottom. The ladder is also damaged.’ He added: ‘It’s very, very difficult because until the rescue team actually get hands on him, we just don’t know. It’s very, very possible that we still be able to resuscitate him.

Stay safe, drunken chimney climbing man.
