To be fair to that one, it let you skip that mission, it didn't force you to open fire, and it did so with the - shallow, yes - intent to say "villain bad". That and the real villain ended up being the US army.

Yeah, I'd argue that that scene was gratuitous and in poor taste, but at least it was being honest who the loving bad guys were. Not saying "actually, it's the national bogeyman who killed those refugees and fleeing soldiers"

This gets mentioned a lot, and I feel like I'm okay with the game having that kind of level in it as a way to get beyond the Michael Bay Explosions Hoo-Rah stuff and make the player feel genuinely uncomfortable doing something. I don't necessarily want to say that CoD treated that level 'with respect' I suppose, but within the context of the game it felt pretty awful and I got the impression that was on purpose.

Straight up saying "Yeah this massive, horrific tragedy was The Bad Guys" when it was us, then pushing your game as a realistic depiction of events is a little different though.

I’m pretty sure it’s downright incorrect as well, I recall that to use an US DoD assets in a game or film you need clearance, and they won’t give it if they don’t like the narrative.

Blops has triumphant and cheerful napalming of the viet cong.
AW (I think) has a beach assault that's clearly invoking the D-Day landings a la Saving Private Ryan. Except you're in the bunkers, in the Nazi position, mowing people down by the dozen as they come out of landing craft. You also get to drone strike them!

I won't deny that the same thing happens in Canada (and I'm sad to say I'm almost definitely ignorant of just how scummy the commodification gets) but holy hell does it look like the UK loves to merchandise the poo poo out of millions of dead soldiers.

The labour party is not suddenly afraid of an election you nit, they've been doing nothing but push for election prep for the past several months. What they're trying to do is maximise damage to the tories before they call one so that they have the greatest possible chance of winning it. Because they have to overcome literally every challenge to do so. The right is, presently, united behind the tories, the idiot middle class is rallying behind the liberals because they fundamentally do not want a labour government, thus it is incumbent on labour to damage them all as much as possible.

The fact that an election is going to be extremely difficult is not new, the fact that the labour therefore wants an election when they have the greatest likelihood of winning it, is not new. Stop catastrophizing like a lunatic at every opportunity, it's stupid.
