"Whaaaaat? We NEVER said that! We treated Barack Hussein Obama with utmost respect! It's not OUR fault he decided to pit the races against one another!"

Stuff like that post gets under my skin, because, like... from an outside perspective, it's totally obvious that Trump is just going through the motions in order to keep Evangelicals on his side. He is a massive, public, unrepentant sinner, but he mixes in a reference to God in a couple of speeches, and delegates someone to start a prayer before cabinet meetings sometimes, and he thinks that that's enough.

And then I read a post like that, and realize "holy poo poo that's enough". People think that "Sure, Trump gave hush money to a porn star to cover up a recent affair, but look, he was photographed with a bunch of pastors laying their hands on him!!" is somehow convincing enough to justify them putting on a MAGA hat. Burn American Evangelicalism to the ground.

They'll overlook anything as long as they can stick it to women with anti-abortion laws and LGBT+ with anti-gay poo poo (when Jesus never breathed a word about homosexuality). I just don't know how people can claim to be fans of a book that repeatedly calls for helping the poor and being kind to immigrants and then look at Trump and think he lives up to Biblical models for living one's life.

Case in point: prosperity "gospel".

Years ago, I used to hate-watch Trinity Broadcasting (TBN). They had/have seasonal 'Praise-A-Thons' where they basically tell their audience that with ten easy payments of $39.99, you can receive God's blessings!

It was an obvious con, but there were plenty of brainwashed and/or desperate people who gladly fattened those scam artists' bank accounts.

The point was that the church allied itself with an empire and many of its members happily went along with it because they valued power more than their previous mission. That was a bad thing, and dropping in #notallcatholics doesn’t change that.

Okay, but this cartoon - and for that matter, most invocations of the "dual loyalty" trope - imply that all Catholics owe their allegiance to the Vatican over their home countries. You understand why that's pRoBlEmAtIc, right?

Yeah "all jews owe their loyalty to Israel" is a thing us jews get and it sucks there too.

Hell I had to help dump some jewhaters from a pro-Palestine event once and it blew their minds that there might be jews involved in such a thing.

Because now the Jews are seen as worldwide victims by the global community and can therefore manipulate everyone into doing whatever they want. Which is different from the previous state of affairs, when they were only powerful enough to change the course of nations.
