It would be cool if both criticism of the show and criticism of the criticism would leave out the "if you like/dislike X then you are dumb and wrong" but hey, goons.

I strongly dislike Lindelof's history as a writer but I'm enjoying the show so far.

Angela is parts of Rorshach for sure, violent, black and white world view, but she is less rorsash in the sense that she has personal relationships, a social life, etc. Glass was eating home alone out a tv dinner, and doesn't really seem to have relationships and of course is gruff and never takes off the mask.

I'm not saying one has to be one or the other, but I just got hints of both troughout the characters

She's also more of a fighter than Glass, who needed to be saved. Rorscach would have broke his foot off in all those jabronis asses like she was doing.

I'm really not sure what people wanted here, for the entire plot to just get thrown out there immediately? The escape scene was both foreshadowed and unpredictable, which rules. And the slow drip of information is inherent to the medium of television.

Also "hamfisted" is a really great pejorative because you can just say it and it doesn't actually mean anything on its own.

I think the show is decently fun to watch and some of the themes are interesting.

I also think the show withholds enough information that it's kind of impossible to judge if the writing is good or bad yet. The old man could have legitimate reasons for being so coy, or it could all be contrived mystery box poo poo. I'm gonna pretend it's not the latter even though I expect it.

to be fair, lots of people have discussed things they like about it already. personally I like the way it cribs, contrasts and references threads from the graphic novel. as a what if alternate universe, it's fun to play in that sandbox. it's too early for me to say if I think the story is really well told yet or not but I find it interesting so far. I also like the way it's presented in terms of camera work, music and acting.

This shit's about to go off.
It’s always weird when someone is intent on continuing to watch and discuss a show they’re not enjoying. If after 2 of 9 episodes you are really not enjoying it, it’s not likely to turn around for you so why not cut your losses instead of watching another 7 hours of something you dislike?

Spoiler musings from the second episode:

I'm going along with the theory that Judd was part of the White Night with his secret KKK kard. What's the end goal? It led to cops having secret identities and likely an increased amount of powers ala the Patriot Act. What's the next step? To reveal Redford/the government as liars from Rorsachs journal and let Conservatives/Racists use that knowledge to eventually usurp liberals and get elected via the guy from Mad Men?

An ambitious failure is infinitely more interesting than 90% of formulaic television. There's more to discuss, more to be learned. It's okay to like things, and it's also okay to not like things.

So far I'm on board for the wild world building and fun visuals, but I have very little faith in the plot coming together. If it does, great, but if not I'll enjoy the ride.

I'm not really on board with the White Night - seems like if something like that happened in real life, cops wouldn't quit en masse, they'd just go even more fash and tear the city apart until they found the perpetrators

I also wonder when cops started getting their guns locked down, because after an assault like that, it would make more sense to have less red tape in the way of cops using firearms

Roth

They did go more fash though. They're all anonymous, which completely removes accountability for any individual's actions. Episode 2 has them beat the poo poo out of a paparazzi guy and then arrest an entire trailer park with no evidence.

Sure, but it sounded like after the White Night every cop just quit on the spot. Which does not sound realistic at all.

I assumed that quitting en masse was just a cover up to hide their identities like how Sister Night says she quit after she got shot, but is still a police officer.

Most police officers are cowards and recently stopped enforcing the law as a tantrum against a mild increase in accountability. If there was a full on mass assassination of a major metro PD, I think it's quite realistic to expect the survivors to quit en masse. They all get off on being fake rear end tactical tough guys but the moment they actually face danger, they fold.

Nah, the chief talks about it like right after the shooting happened, long before any legislation/infrastructure would have been in place.

That would make sense with why he wasn't scared to drive alone when he got the call: he knew he didn't need an escort because the 7th Kav would never come after him. It would also explain why he got out of his car and looked so puzzled at what was obviously an ambush: because he :airquote: knew :airquote: no one was out to get him.
