My family that watches this show were commenting on this over dinner during a visit tonight and their sheer disgust and I'm sitting there kind of wondering what anybody expected really with what was always a terrible loving idea from literally any perspective. Producer, contestant, judge or fan, nobody wins in yet another weird self-own of big media culture. Of course having a Trumper Republican on a network prime time TV show is going to get him chuds voting in blocs and keeping him on the show to "Own the Libs". I mean Christ I think I remember hearing Sarah Palin's daughter even made it to the finals of one season despite being a really mediocre dancer on the basis of Republicans voting for her alone and polarization wasn't even as bad then as it is now.

So the GOP strategy was to call the whole investigation a 'witchhunt', and DEMAND a 'fair trial.' DNC sees the weakness in the GOP strategy: a fair trial does not work to Trump's advantage, and write a resolution that turns the impeachment inquiry into a fair trial. That's pretty sweet. And now we're learning that the not-a-transcript was redacted to strategically exclude Trump actually asking about investigating Biden in exchange for the funds. The inquiry will likely explore two possibilities: first, that Trump knew the Biden stuff was misinformation, a conspiracy theory, an outright lie - and was trying to use taxpayer funds allocated by congress to coerce Ukraine into complicit collusion to help him win the 2020 election; or that Trump /believed/ the Biden stuff, revealing himself to have fallen for weaponized disinformation campaigns that compromise his decision-making ability w/r/t serving the interests of his electorate. If he defends himself (not that he'll be taking the stand or anything) by insisting that he genuinely believes that Ukraine had /real/ evidence of /real/ wrongdoing by Biden, he argues in favor of the interpretation that he's compromised, an asset of whichever foreign intelligence agency or domestic fascist cult invented that narrative. Mind you, he was asked outright 'have you ever asked for investigation into corruption that /wasn't/ targeted at a political rival', his response made it pretty clear he has not. This is damning in the other direction.
