Yeah that's unfortunate. I guess that happens in the movies? Maybe I should watch them. I do enjoy the newbie from S2 becoming the grizzled chief who chews out the protagonists when they break the rules but get results, dammit.

i don't think oresuki is great, but i've been enjoying 'incel learns to make friends with a harem thats not actually into him' as a twist on the genre. its also nice to have a protag that's not the usual doormat. the ugly girls beauty transformation is one of the most unbelievable i've seen though

They make it a little more clear in the manga that Pansy binds her chest and puts effort into making herself look plain, so she's a reverse of the "shy nerd girl - glasses = hottie" trope. She's completely confident that she can snare guys with her physical beauty, but she wants Joro to be his rotten self and fall for her rotten self without resorting to her looks. It's bucking the formula enough to keep me entertained, so far, and the adaptation has added to all of the characters in positive ways.

What she doesn't like is him playing the typical dense harem protagonist, when she knows he's actually always sizing up the situation and planning his moves. She's just as cynical and calculating but I think she's probably not being 100% honest herself. I think the Jekyll/Hyde reference is there for both of them. Joro's not a shitbag. He's definitely a horny jerk at times, but he's 3/5 a Kazuma at worst. Pansy's great, because she's absolutely the foil and love interest he deserves.
