I like the beyond breakfast sandwich burger thing from Tim Hortons. Coffee is gross though. Sour cream glazed donut is still good. A&W fucks.

I think it might be some crazy coincidence but I'm starting to suspect that Winnipeg's increase in rent, the city's crusade against rooming houses and the reduction in welfare payments to single adults might be contributing to our tent city problems. Just from what I've seen personally, in the past 6 years we've lost probably 100 rooming house rooms, which on one hand is great because they were filthy but on the other hand there hasn't been an increase in subsidized housing to make up for it. LOL forever at the Liquor Mart debating endlessly what to do about the thefts though. Half the beer vendors figured this out mad early and just serve you through a steel window with a tiny door for your beer.

Sal's was great at 3am with their hearty breakfast supreme. The best beer vendor just by Grant and Pembina doesn't have any steel doors. It's wide open.

I worked as a temp for a few weeks at the factory in Brantford that makes all of the baked goods for Tim Hortons. Working a week's worth of shifts and seeing frozen boxes of maple pecan danishes go past you, knowing that people will defend it as part of their "culture" was kind of an odd experience. Even the local Zehrs made better donuts than these, and were probably about the same price, if not cheaper. I was disappointed they didn't need me for too long, because 12-hours shifts with free coffee and an air-conditioned environment when I was otherwise unemployed. vyelkin posted:Cora's is okay if you have a burning need to shove 5,000 calories of overpriced carbs, sugar, and fruit into your mouth, but only if you go there at like 10 AM on a weekday Yeah, I've been to Cora's more than I realized I should have in my life, and it always seemed like that was 90% of their menu. Ironically, probably the healthiest dish on the menu was the one I always ordered with eggs, bacon, and sausage.

Not like AKs (but there was also an AK) but actual 'this needs to be mounted on a vehicle or carried by several people and placed on a tripod to operate in the field' machine guns. welcome to every city in western canada. we are 3 years deep in a full on meth crisis and as pointed out rent assist, welfare and social housing has all been axed. the province is doing absolutely nothing to help meth addicts. the best way to get rehab is to committ a worse enough crime to get sent to stony because thats the only place in manitoba with a working meth rehab program. the police and the justice system dont actually seem to give a poo poo about arresting the top people moving meth around the province and instead continue to bust low level dealers so they can put some bags of meth on a table and cross their arms and call it a day. the whole thing is hosed and no one gives a poo poo.

Memories of the good old days at Tim Hortons doing back boy job. - Get to work at 3. Day bakers have just finished, all the fresh donuts cooling down on the racks. Eat whatever you want, grab a coffee. - Grab the fresh donut blanks and head to the hot fondant machine. Turn them into boston creams, chocolate dips, vanilla sprinkle, etc. - Get rid of all the donuts out front. They're 8 hours old now, trash not fit for human consumption. We easily filled half a 2x2x4 foot garbage bin every day, sometimes more. A dude came once and gave me 10 bucks for like 400 pounds to feed his emus. - Cut fresh veg and make chicken salad and tuna salad for the night shift/tomorrow. I think that was the only thing pre-prepped for sandwiches, everything else was just meat and vegetables they hand assembled. - Cover cash during cashier breaks, rushes - Drive donuts/cups around to smaller stores without bakeries - My break, make whatever monstrosity of bagel sandwich I could imagine with whatever ingredients - Mop/clean the back, quit at 9. Save some old donuts if going to a party after. It was a good summer job. I feel bad for the people working there now.

I'm sure it's of real importance to scholars of the soviet gulags but dear god it's a grinding reading. even the abridged version is way too long.
