She could've voted to recognise the genocide and then released a statement saying she wished it could've been acknowledged a long time ago. It wouldn't have garnered nearly as much attention but maybe using the vote as an opportunity to get on a soapbox wasn't the most tasteful thing in the world.

I'm not massively concerned with optics as a thing in themselves, but there were ways of highlighting other genocides that wouldn't come with all this baggage, especially given everything else that's going on with Turkey rn.
