jabby posted:Fuses on plugs do nothing to protect the wiring in the wall, they protect the flex going to the appliance. Which is lower gauge and could potentially overheat during a fault condition even if it wasn't passing enough current to trip the circuit breaker. It's nothing to do with us using ring mains. In the radial main, you have a breaker at the consumer unit that protects both the wiring in the wall and the flex, so you don't need a fuse in the plug and the wall wiring is protected. In a ring main you can have 30A going through one leg of the 20A wiring in the wall, then that wiring catching fire, then your wall space catching fire, without the fuse in the plug caring. jabby posted:Also shaver sockets in bathrooms are actually isolating transformers, which means unlike the mains supply their output isn't referenced to ground. That means you can theoretically touch the live output directly while holding Earthed plumbing and you won't get a shock, because current can only flow if there's a path back to the transformer itself rather than simply to Earth (which is the case with mains voltage). So you'd have to be touching both the live and neutral at the same time to be shocked which is much less likely than touching one. Making them safer for bathroom use with all that Earthed plumbing and water around. This itself is a reflection of the Latin American love affair with democratic processes that yield ambiguous mandates, combined with middle-income-trap urban areas with statistics akin to Southern Europe, electing a government jointly with rural regions with development statistics more similar to subsaharan Africa. It's a permanently toxic stew.

Wait, Nigel Farage isn't standing? I wonder if he sees the actual Brexit Party candidates as useful idiots setting themselves up for a fall while he takes most of the publicity? All 650 of them, because that's what Nige said is going to happen. But none of those seats appeal to Nige. But he will be on the BBC a whole lot, you can be sure of it. The wonders of the trickledown trough! Enjoy Nigel Farage's spitty crumbs, fellow porkers!

I love trans people because they're people. Anything else is just being a hateful, spiteful piece of poo poo and that's not a healthy way to go through life. I had to explain to my niece that I'm not a good person, I'm a dick, it's just that the bar is so low even *I* trip over it

Agreed, if people are set on the idea that clearly transpeople are just in it to do sex crimes that suggests some weird prejudices on their part tbh.
