Based on electricity = speed + speed spikes, backwards ears, hound part of the name, and details from leakers, it's meant to be. It really doesn't look like one to me though. It's nowhere near noodly or lank enough and looks more like a golden lab or other assistance dog.

I mean maybe it's one of those things where it's thematically [one critter] but its visual design is way more [similar, but noticeably different] critter. Kind of like how Squirtle is obviously a turtle but has tortoise feet.

A brief Google Translate says they use the same word for both (kame). Reminds me of one of the Planet of the Apes where an ape is called a monkey and takes offence, which translates poorly as many languages use the same word for both monkey and ape.

Chatot is another example, based on a masked lovebird. Lovebirds in my experience are one of the worst parrots for mimicking speech, usually only able to mimic tone and inflection (so you can say "hello bird" and it might go BEEP-beep beep! in reply). One of mine was very good at mimicking my text message notification sound, though. If they were going for "little parrot that mimics speech" they should have gone with a budgie. If they were willing to go larger any of the bigger parrots would fit.

e: translators are to blame for Persian being called Persian despite really obviously being a Siamese made into a big cat and in no way a Persian. Alola Persian is a bit more a Persian but probably a British shorthair, one of the really puffy faced ones.

There's actually four different fossils you can resurrect: regular fossil monkey, regular fossil fish, regular fossil mermaid, regular fossil reverse mermaid.

e: obviously in Sword you find fish head and human legs, and in Shield you find human head and fish legs. You can trade the items themselves or the products of the resurrections. If you breed two monkeys together, you only get monkeys in the eggs they lay. Likewise if you breed two fish together, you just get fish. If you breed mermaid and reverse mermaid, you get a mix of fish, monkeys, reverse mermaids, and regular mermaids. Finally Pokemon breeding is going to involve punnet squares *grabs my graph paper, scribbling furiously*

I think they tried to make Cinderace look cool, but it's not really working for me right now. Maybe if I see it in action, I'll change my mind, but right now it looks too much like a cheaply made action figure.

A cool thing about Gen IV was that it was the closest the series ever came to a reverse triangle with the starters final evos. Torterra's ground type let it earthquake the monkey to death. Infernape's fighting type let it punch the steel Penguin. And Empoleon's steel made it lose its grass weakness (but gain an EQ weakness.)
