ImpAtom posted:I don't know, Sae is a huge mess of a human being in ways that are directly connected to her job. Maybe my perception of this is skewed, but I see a lot of bad fathers in anime circles basically stay reviled by readers even if the story makes it a point to try and have that father legitimately apologize and try to atone for whatever they did to damage their families. To the point where some readers might not even want that character to get any forgiveness from their families at all. Dojima is emotionally distant, an alchoholic, and a guy who really wasn't suited towards raising a child on his own for a number of reasons and his social link is basically you helping him realize that and and stop hiding behind his wife's death and face his daughter and his responsibilities as a father. And even without that he still goes to bat for Nanako when she gets kidnapped landing him in the hospital for his efforts. Sae doesn't get to develop like that, has a mountain of skeletons far worse in her closet as has been pointed out numerous times, and when the story really should have delved into that troubled past it sidesteps that entirely because it's more important to have Joker pull off his master Keikaku and for Sae to just be a pawn in it rather than have her develop. So even with all the crap that is the result of her job and the environment she works in all the time it never gets a proper resolution. And it's clear Atlus hadn't forgotten how to write troubled guardian figures because Sojiro/Futaba exists even it I also think that was underwhelming in the writing to some degree. I just can't be mad at Detective Dad because he's one of the better parts of the writing and side-content of Persona 4 and there was a clear trajectory for his character and had meaning put into it. I can be tired of Persona 5 not feeling like it knew what kind of character it wanted Sae to be at any point in the story.

so glad the internet stopped me buying Royal. Persona 5 is already probably worst Persona, depending on how forgiving i am of #1 at any given time. still might get Persona Musou Warriors though, I loved Arena.

Does Royal change the gameplay in any way?

I've heard that statuses are less effective, there are some team up attacks like in P4, there's a new playable character, some adjustments and additions to the social mechanics, and bonus stuff like Jose, new final dungeon, etc. They also added a grappling hook that you use is palaces here and there but that basically doesn't mean anything. The core gameplay is pretty much the same though.

The only disappointing Warriors spin-off is Fire Emblem Warriors and even that was a fun game whose main problem was a lackluster, samey character roster. P5 Scramble will slap.

Ah, I only played the third one of those and had fun enough with it Mea culpa on that, I guess. I imagine Attack on Titan 2 probably would've been bleh to people who'd already played the first one, too, in terms of the relative amount of content added but as someone that skipped straight to it it was pretty great.

Eh, FE Warriors kinda made me cautious of those, even if Zelda Warriors was better. If there's a FE Warriors 2, I hope there's more variety of the playable characters, hopefully less of the Hoshidan and Nohrian families. I could totally see myself buying P5 Scramble, though!

Having weed is super illegal in Japan and the Phantom Thieves are actually a bunch of weenies outside of the brainwashing. Except for Haru. Also Futaba.

You could have cut every Shadow Dragon character from the Fire Emblem one besides Marth and Caeda and I don't think many people would have given two shits. That concept deserved a better roster.

That concept deserved a better roster. Not to mention that there were massive gaps in the game's base roster, gameplay-wise. It's a game built around the weapon triangle, but there's not a single lance user in the game that doesn't use the pegasus knight moveset, unless you pay money for oboro or azura. It's a weapon triangle based game with 10 sword users, 4 axe users, and 3 lance users in the base roster. And all of those lance users have the same moveset, and two of the axe users do.

Even if you made the roster more diverse, if it had as many clones, it'd still suck. To be fair, all the Axes were unique. Lissa, Frederick and Camilla all had their own. But the only other axes was Minerva, a Camilla clone, in the DLC.

Fun fact: I looked up a popularity poll and the highest ranking characters were Yosuke, Chie, and Adachi. Yu was just one place lower than Adachi. Of course, that was just one poll, so.
