I like callbacks as much as the next guy, but this show is getting just sliiightly ridiculous with them. You don't have to wink at the camera half a dozen times per episode, dang it. It's getting embarrassing.

Also, "roll on snare drum" etc. wasn't even the Comedian.

I bought and reread the comic and the show just got a LOT better. It was incomprehensible before. I think this show really requires a decent familiarity with the comic to appreciate

"roll on snare drum" was definitely going too far after we had just gotten "republic serial villain," but I'm hopeful that this was just them getting it out of the way now that they've brought one of the original six into the main plot (and finally straight-up said that Veidt is Veidt).

Also the game warden obviously has some connection to the Black Freighter, which Veidt has had dreams about, so I'm super-excited to find out what's going on with that.

That flight on the jet between Laurie and the young agent, made me realize that what we know as readers or watchers of the comics or movies isn't what the civilians in this world know, but there is speculation among them. So, so know really knows that Laurie knew Adrian.

SO here's a hypothetical based on that, what if no one knew the story of watchmen. As in, us too, us the viewers, the readers. It was never a comic or movie, no one told the story. I'm making some alt history here. And imagine that, this show still somehow comes out and season 1 is whatever this season is, set in the modern day, local and fed cops, some tech, whatever this season is.... and then season 2 is just the telling of the events from the comic book and movie. Do you think people would like season 2 of that watchmen? OR would they be pissed and roll their eyes and feel duped or something

Laurie mentioned the squid monster when she started telling the joke to manhattan, and it's juxtaposition to the realistic look of the show set me off thinking "lol yea right" for a split second and then a "oh wait, yea, thats right"

Secondary thought, the comic and movie were from the perspective of Rorschach's journal, so does that mean they could possibly be an unreliable narrator in some spots?

I think Doc has Adrian imprisoned on Mars. In the first episode when they showed Manhattan on Mars he was building/destroying a structure that looked an awful lot like Adrian's castle.

That would explain the somewhat otherworldly nature of his surroundings and his odd technological limitations. And Jon just keeps making clones for him to keep him busy with.

Also how his clone got frozen by building what looks like a rudimentary space suit and relatively short length of rope.

Mars is also far enough that you actually would start to freeze in space. Don’t know if that counts for anything, though, since freezing in space is pretty common in fiction.

I wonder how much manhattan could control viedt. Like, did the Blue Dr put Viedt on this whatever island and also far back in the past to slow Viedt's development down. Like, manhattan probably didnt want to lobotomize him, or change is brain too much, so screwing with the molucules of viedts brain is too far. But memory wiping him and giving him amnesia might be do-able? And then sending him to a place where there is barely any tech. It'd be like a prison and make him like a pet or a child in a pen or terrarium

Laurie is wildly immoral. Shooting a fleeing suspect in the back intending to kill him because of her beef with Veidt, her involvement in covering up Veidt's crime, shooting the 7th Cav bomber despite the danger of the suicide vest going off, banging her subordinate, and of course lying to herself that she is better than a vigilante. Her mask is an FBI agent and she gets to hide behind law and order while quietly carrying out her own brand of justice.

Veidt did manage to create a scenario in the comic that Manhattan couldn't properly see coming so I imagine someone of that danger to Dr Manhattan would be seen as someone that should be held for observation.

The main thing I've picked up on my Watchmen re-read is how loving incredible Dave Gibbons' art is. It's not particularly showy but goddamn there is some mindblowingly solid visual storytelling going on in that 9-panel grid.

Not to take anything away from Gibbons', he's a legend and his art in Watchmen is a masterwork, but a lot of the credit for the visual storytelling has to be shared with Moore. The scripts were detailed on how Moore wanted the art to be outlined. That said, the idea to frame the comic in 9 panels is Gibbons', and that is such a huge part of why the visual storytelling is so strong.

Macro thought, Watchmen is merely about villains trying to impose their world view on everyone else. Essentially there are no heroes just idiots thinking they can run the world better than the next person.

At the end of the book Manhattan saved Adrian's plan and gave a generic, "and now I leave you to the fruits of your labor". sort of farewell. What could Adrian have done to go from that permanent goodbye to Manhattan kidnapping him and holding him prisoner, presumably against his will? Manhattan doing it unprovoked doesn't fit his character. too self serving and he didn't seem to have enough admiration for Adrian to use him as some sort of model for his clones.
