watching a documentary series about the belgian resistance. the difference between the communists/socialists and the liberals/christians is almost a caricature. the left spent the war killing germans, saving jews, doing sabotage. the right were all bourgeois as gently caress and just printed some newspapers. after the war, as opposed to the left, the right immediately worked to provide amnesty to all collaborators - and basically got what they wanted, even though the flemish nationalists still complain about it being a witch hunt. imo all collaborators, regardless of the scale of their collaborating, should've been put against the wall and shot - up to and including the king.

you were put into a concentration camp! you were tortured! the christian freak in question was head of the campaign for amnesty for collaborators. the liberal one was the minister of justice that basically gave it to them. pathetic ideologies. weak.

Why not just call it Cousin Jim Canyon? It’s way closer. I have to assume “Holy” was a frequent part of his vocabulary.

My copy of Dana Schwartz' (of @guyinyourmfa fame) The White Man's Guide To White Male Writers of the Western Canon arrived and I'm not sure the last time I've been as immediately satisfied by a book purchase.

Google's code is notorious for having elements rely on seemingly unrelated programs to prevent espionage. Uber stole a bunch of code from Googles self driving program to serve as the foundation for their self driving program. It turns out when you are missing key components dont understand what you have, the program doesn't work properly. Thankfully, uber has been laying off its programmers so these things will happen with heater frequency.

Knowing some people who work for Uber, they are either too smart or not smart enough for their own good. It's why M.D.s are great targets for scams because if you can hook one they will go all in. After all, they are too smart to fall for that sort of scam, so whatever they are doing is *by definition* not a scam. So it's just constant doubling down.

self-driving tech is going to be used for mass murder, probably by police, because it diminishes legal human culpability for deaths
