LET ME EXPLAIN

Eiba posted:

I just realized, there are only three legendaries in this game. Period. There's not even a legendary trio, just the cover legendaries and the bad guy.

That is fantastic. I loved ultra beasts, but legendary bloat has always been an obnoxious distraction from real pokemon.

That graphic posted earlier lists Mew, but I don't see it in the 400 listed in the galar dex. I guess it could be a secret 401 or whatever, but I don't see how anyone could know that yet.

Are we sure the expanded post-game dex is a lie? I have a hard time imagining they'd so completely drop the concept of legendary pokemon like that, even if it's something I'm personally happy about.

They announced the pokeball plus gets you mew

I miss Naganadel (another bee friend) but yeah legendaries are pretty lame usually

I know Weezing was one of the first Pokemon revealed for this game but have we seen what Galarian Koffing looks like yet (if it’s any different than the normal one that is)?

I'm pretty happy to hear there are less legendaries. They always just sat in my box and did nothing.

Could be a Cubone/Marowak situation where only the evolution gets an alternate form.

Less legendaries is good, but the approach of merely throwing them in the dustin of history is really, not good.
Had GF been more competent and less averse to making changes to older pokemon bar a few stat boosts, a better approach could be making some mythicals and legendaries lose that status, merely just very rare.
For example, Zeraora has no goddamn reason being mythical, Latios and Latias are also known to have whole hidden populations, the Ultra Beasts are supposedly common in their own worlds.
Of course this can cuts on the issue of artificial scarcity, which seems that GF really wants to upheld with mythical pokemon and Egg Group Undiscovered in favor of merely getting these pokemon through completely uneventful distributions.

Koffing as we know it can only have Levitate, would it just roll 50/50 to either keeping Levitate or gaining G-Weezing's Neutralizing Gas?

400 is a very, very low number. That's less than half of all Pokémon. I was hoping they'd trim the legendary bloat, and they did, but they gutted the overall Pokédex.

I'm surprised at how many Kanto Pokémon were cut after all the pandering to genwunners.

I'm not really a fan of the starter evolutions, but there's still lots of pokemon that I like in there. I guess I'd be pretty annoyed with the cuts if I hadn't already lost my whole backlog ages ago when I forgot to renew my bank sub. The Melmetal thing is really weird to me though, I messed around with Go just long enough to get Melmetal back when it was at its most tedious, and now I guess it doesn't matter? I'm prepared to approach S&S as a fresh start but that at least kind of sucks. All the new ones look great though so whatever

Yeah, not being in S&S on release doesn't mean they're gone forever. It doesn't even necessarily mean they're gone permanently from S&S either, although most of them still will be.

I bet there's gonna be periodic events where they reintroduce pokemon the Squirtle/Bulbasaur line or give everybody old fossils.

I thought all the gen 1 mons and their variants and evolutions were 100% safe just because of Let's Go. Like maybe they'd take the opportunity to drop Jynx or Tangela or something but nope. :psyduck:

Mew is the only confirmed mythical because they said as much (Rejoice Pokeball + owners), and the list is based on what the full in-game dex has. Since nothing can be transferred to the games yet and that mythicals don't have entries until you obtain them, surely Meltboy and Meltman could still be in.

According to this article:

quote:

When I ask for specifics about the Pokémon that didn't make the cut for Sword and Shield – including names and total number of creatures – Masuda did not elaborate. However, he was much more explicit when I asked if cut Pokémon will return in future games. "Definitely," he says. "You can look forward to seeing Pokémon that don’t appear in these games appearing in different regions in future games. I think Pokémon Home, for a lot of players, will serve as a launching pad to gather them all there and then embark on future adventures."

Which doesn't necessarily mean that future games will have every pokemon or import them all to the same game. Just that they have a chance to appear in future games.

There have not been any indications that they plan to patch in the cut pokemon to Galar. And going by gamefreak's track record with not patching in new content to their games, I do not believe it is likely.

PokeBank will be able to send to Home but not to Sword/Shield, as far as I know.

"All the pandering" amounts to a cute Red/Blue remake and a compilation of some of the Gigantamaxes featuring only Gen 1 Pokemon.

I agree, however, that it's strange to exclude Gen 1 Pokemon given how popular Let's Go was. Are we certain that chart is real?

The last I heard the path is USUM <---> Bank ---> Home <---> SS

Since the Bank to Home path is one-way and only one-way, you can't get anything backwards, and anything not in Galar is stuck in Home until they release something new to transfer those friends to.

(I could be wrong about being able to transfer formerly-Banked mons from Home to SS if they are present in Galar, someone sing out if I am)

It's usually the latter. A lot of people are furious that their friends will be trapped in whatever Home is forever instead of for, like, a year.

Well, not dlc necesarily, I was just thinking about adding stuff in an update. Lots of Switch titles have gotten pretty significant content in free updates so it doesn't seem too crazy to me, although I guess with the original 150 being swiss cheese the whole "maybe they'll add more pokemon as they create the assets" thing seems a lot less likely.

Smash released what felt like a thousand and one tweets, articles, and emails telling people to redeem their Piranha Plant code before the deadline to download the plant friend and people still managed to not do it so some people will definitely end up trapping their friends in the 3DS forever through inaction. RIP, those friends.

Also oh man Toxitricity rules, I love his attitude and I can't wait to have him on my team. Same for Centiskorch. I am an out and proud Cinderace liker- he could stand to look a little more like King Kazuma but I still think it'll have great animations- but there will be no room for rabbit antics with Centiskorch on the Centiskuad.
