Special formatting request: Please only list the name of the person you are voting for from each match-up. This will be easier for me to count than bolding names from match-ups. I can work around this if necessary, but if you can vote by just listing the name of your choice, that would be great. You can abstain from votes. You are not required to list that vote as ‘abstain,’ you just need to skip it. Daniel Bryan Finished 3rd in Favorite Active Wrestlers thread Won ultra-finals of 2017 WH-128 Bryan wasn’t even wrestling when the last WH-128 was held. It seemed impossible for him to come back, but he was able to do so early 2018. Since then, he’s had a largely great series of matches with AJ Styles and has reminded everyone that he’s just not a great wrestler, but charismatic and great on interviews. Bryan should still be one of the best wrestlers as long as his health allows. Masaaki Mochizuki Did not appear in 2017 WH-128 Mochizuki is still a great wrestler at the age of 49. His October 8th match against Ben-K for the Open the Dream Gate is talked of as one of the best Dragon Gate matches of the year. Other highlights for him include a May match against Shun Skywalker. King Corbin Eliminated in Round 1 of 2017 WH-128 by Michael Elgin Long criticized for overpushed, Corbin may have found himself a new role that works as King Corbin. He’s been praised for his work during the King of the Ring tournament, including a highlight match with Chad Gable. He also had a good TLC match with Seth Rollins last year. Timothy Thatcher Did not appear in 2017 WH-128 Thatcher has started to break out in the past couple of years, as his indie performances have gotten rave reviews. This year’s he’s received praise for great matches with Davey Boy Smith Jr., Yuki Ishikawa, Chris Dickinson, Daniel Makabe, and Hideki Suzuki, and those matches each took place in a different promotion. In the past week or so, Twitter was overrun with other wrestlers praising him both for his in-ring skills and his kindness out of the ring. Darby Allin Finished 32nd in Favorite Active Wrestlers thread Did not appear in 2017 WH-128 Allin wasn’t even on the WH-128 radar in 2017, but he’s put himself on the map by working all over the world in the indies and eventually putting on star making performances in EVOLVE, PWG, and AEW. His Coffin Drop finisher is one of the most shocking high flying moves in the world. Allin also seems to thrive off of ridiculous spots, making every match he’s in completely unpredictable. Ryusuke Taguchi Eliminated in Round 1 of 2017 WH-128 by Kofi Kingston Eliminated in Round 3 in 2013 by Kevin Steen Taguchi is the closest thing the New Japan junior heavyweight division has to Toru Yano. In addition to his comedy matches, “The Funky Weapon” also has the ability to put on good matches. This year, he’s put on good-to-great matches this year with Taiji Ishimori, Hiroshi Tanahashi, YOH, DOUKI, Robbie Eagles, and Will Ospreay. He’s also spent most of the year with Togi Makabe and Toru Yano as the NEVER Openweight Six-Man Tag Team Champion. The Young Bucks, Matt & Nick Jackson Matt: eliminated in Round 1 of 2017 WH-128 by Scott Dawson Nick: eliminated in Round 2 by Kento Miyahara As a central part of the launch of AEW, The Young Bucks are on the hunt for their sixth straight WON Tag Team of the Year. They will be hurt by largely missing the first half of the year, but they’re making up for it as best as they can, with every high profile match they’ve had this year as a tag team receiving at least four stars from Meltzer (until the AEW Dynamite debut). They’ll continue to be one of the best teams in the world going forward. Io Shirai Eliminated in Round 1 of 2017 WH-128 by KUSHIDA After a seven-year run in Stardom, Shirai joined WWE in 2018, debuting in November for them. After a series where she was unable to get a fair match against Shayna Baszler and thus was unable to win the NXT Women’s Title, she turned heel on friend Candice LeRae and had an amazing match with her in August. Shirai’s one of the very best female workers in WWE today. Taichi Finished 19th in Favorite Active Wrestlers thread Did not appear in 2017 WH-128 Taichi was criticized for not maximizing his talents. He always seemed to leave something on the table. That seems to have changed in 2019. His act has improved with the addition of a Phantom of the Opera-esque mask and “singing” portion, along with his adorably evil valet, Mako Abe. Add in that the past two years have seen him put on ****+ matches with Ospreay, Takagi, and Ishii, and Taichi has entered another level. Sonny Kiss Did not appear in 2017 WH-128 Kiss is a prospect that’s signed with AEW. While he’s green, he’s very charismatic and athletic in the ring. He came off as a future star in his match with Peter Avalon at Fight for the Fallen, and he managed to get himself over in the Casino Battle Royale at Double or Nothing. Randy Orton Eliminated in Round 1 of 2017 WH-128 by Joey Ryan’s Dick Eliminated in Round 2 in 2015 by Tomohiro Ishii Eliminated in Round 2 in 2013 by Kane Eliminated in Round 3 in 2011 by Davey Richards Eliminated in Round 3 in 2009 by Jack Swagger Eliminated in Round 3 in 2007 by Shawn Michaels I ain’t got anything new to say here. Jacob Fatu Did not appear in 2017 WH-128 Fatu is considered one of the top prospects in U.S. wrestling. Just seven years into his career, MLW has bet big on him, making him the leader of the Contra Unit heel group and giving him their world championship. He’s been praised for his combination of size and agility. Orange Cassidy Finished 16th in Favorite Active Wrestlers thread Did not appear in 2017 WH-128 Still the chilliest motherfucker on the planet. Taiji Ishimori Did not appear in 2017 WH-128 Ishimori won the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship at Tokyo Dome at the start of the year in a good match with KUSHIDA, and then had great defenses against Taguchi & Liger before dropping the belt to Dragon Lee. His tag team with El Phantasmo had a pair of great matches with Robbie Eagles & Will Ospreay, ending with IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship going to Bullet Club. Ricochet Eliminated in Round 4 of 2017 WH-128 by Cesaro Eliminated in The Quarter Finals in 2015 by Kevin Owens Eliminated in Round 4 in 2013 by Daniel Bryan Eliminated in Round 1 in 2011 by KENTA He’s still one of the very best high flying wrestlers in the world. WWE has largely pushed him well after he moved up from NXT. There’s been a couple of speedbumps, but he’s been doing well on the main roster, putting on good matches with AJ Styles, Samoa Joe, and Drew McIntyre, plus an entertaining (if creatively confusing) tag team with Aleister Black. In addition to his in-ring talent, he has an innate charisma that should make stardom easy for him. Jungle Boy Did not appear in 2017 WH-128 Jungle Boy has largely been working solo on the indies, though he’s being slotted in AEW as half of the Jurassic Express. He’s talented regardless of his role, with seemingly endless charisma and an innate ability to generate sympathy. He’s also a very promising worker, with many well received matches in PWG, AEW and GCW, including a ****1/2 singles match against Jake Atlas. It’d be shocking if he’s not a future superstar. Your ballot: Daniel Bryan vs. Masaaki Mochizuki King Corbin vs. Timothy Thatcher Darby Allin vs. Ryusuke Taguchi The Young Bucks vs. Io Shirai Taichi vs. Sonny Kiss Randy Orton vs. Jacob Fatu Orange Cassidy vs. Taiji Ishimori Ricochet vs. Jungle Boy Voting closes at 7 p.m. Eastern on Wednesday, or whenever I get in front of a computer after that.

Daniel Bryan - a 3 year layoff has not killed his ability to spin poo poo into gold Timothy Thatcher - controversial opinion here I know but gently caress Baron Corbin Darby Allin - a motherfucking star Io Shirai - I don't do NXT any more because gently caress supporting the Big Trump Fundraiser but Io is one of the few things that makes me wish I did Taichi - turn Kip Sabien into a male version of Miho Abe and give him to Sonny and then I might have voted the other way Jacob Fatu - FROM OUTTA NOWHERE Orange Cassidy - hardest pick of this batch but I'm really intrigued by OC and I love the slow build he's getting Jungle Boy - not a cop Daniel Bryan Timothy Thatcher Darby Allin Io Shirai Taichi Jacob Fatu Orange Cassidy Jungle Boy

Masaaki Mochizuki Timothy Thatcher Ryusuke Taguchi Io Shirai Taichi Jacob Fatu Taiji Ishimori Ricochet Just want to stress that the Bryan vs Mochizuki match is one I'd kill to actually get to see in real life. Mochi kinda gets forgotten about by non-Dragon Gate watchers but he's one of the absolute best old wrestlers in the world. Or rather he's one of the absolute best wrestlers in the world, and he's also old! Meanwhile Bryan is straight up one of my all-time faves. But when I'm talking about Bryan I'm saying his first name: I'm thinking of Bryan Danielson, I'm thinking of his indies run where he was so versatile and exciting. But looking at the 2 year period since the last one of these tournaments it ain't even close. Bryan has had some good stuff, with Brock, AJ, & Kofi, but Mochizuki has been out there rocking away: he formed Mochizuki Dojo to help several young & kinda floundering DG guys get experience and it's been fun as hell, there was his Dream Gate defence against Kzy, the defence against Ben-K, & the match with YAMATO. There was a great tag team match in All Japan with Shun Skywalker against Shuji Kondo & Kotaro Suzuki which I can't find video of,Mochi & Shun vs Tribe Vanguard of BxB Hulk & YAMATO, ]a great DG trios match between the groups of Mochizuki Dojo, Natural Vibes & MaximuM, ]big singles with Shuji Kondo in Kondo's first singles match back in DG in years, his King of Gate match with Shun after he left the Dojo, the big Ultimo Dragon emotional come back trios at Kobe World, against Kenoh in NOAH & his apparently challenge against Ben-K from last month that I am going to watch over breakfast. Oh yeah, & the match from Gate of Destiny where he tagged with YAMATO against Shun & Kzy. Watch Dragon Gate, love Mochizuki.

DBD/Mochizuki: the toughest draw of the first round. Mochi is still amazing and Bryan is one of my all time faves. Have to go with Mochi because Corbin/Thatcher: From one of the toughest to one of the easiest. Thathcer deserves to have his art appreciated by the US audiences. Allin/Taguchi: suicidal half-skeleton turtle lover beats man who has an rear end Bucks/Shirai: NXT-Shirai has been good (from what I've seen), Hitokiri was the best part of the Pentagon vs joshininjas match, but I haven't seen enough of her praised Stardom stuff to put her ahead of the Bucks. Taichi/Kiss: Have to abstain here, neither haven't really made an impression on me. Orton/Fatu: Headlocks or moonsaults. Hmm, that is indeed a choice. Cassidy/Ishimori: Cassidy is a delight, always. O'Shea/Boy: I've never been the biggest fan of Rick O'Shea, although I do acknowledge his incredible athletic skills and his great run as Prince Puma. Jungle Boy might be a bit generic at the moment, but the upside is huge(-ish) Masaaki Mochizuki Timothy Thatcher Darby Allin The Young Bucks - Jacob Fatu Orange Cassidy Jungle Boy
