Lprsti99 posted:Voted in Virginia Beach. According to a lady giving out ballot guides, turnout has been ridiculous, apparently my polling station has already doubled its average full-day turnout. It's VB, which is normally pretty WASPy, but she's a Dem and seemed real excited, so hopefully a good sign? VA Beach is hella vulnerable to poachong by the Dems. So yeah, its a good sign!

In local news Cuyahoga County has a community college tax levy which has 2 options: Vote yes, which renews the current tax we pay to support our community college and increases it by a tiny percent. Vote no, which repeals the old tax levy. It seems like a way to muck up the ballot measure by forcing the choice to be between increasing the tax or repealing it all together. Not sure which was the intended goal. Probably should have had the increase be separate from the renewal, but I'm sure there are ulterior motives in doing it this way.

Haven't lived in VA for a few years but did for bout 90% of my life - rooting for y'all there. Hope I can have a repeat of 2017 when I got to savor those sweet election results in the afternoon here in socialist hellhole California.

As a heads up for people in the Durham, Chapel Hill, Carrboro, and Hillsborough areas of NC, today’s Election Day for those cities. IndyWeek.com, the area’s local progressive news site, has a full list of polling locations and endorsements which helped me big time with Raleigh’s election. Also the usual warning holds here that sparsely populated Maximum Republican ("real Virginia") precincts typically report first and densely populated suburban and urban ones ("those people") report late, so figuring out whether a Republican lead in preliminary results is an artifact of statistics or a harbinger of doom is tricky. If you're likely to be stressed out by this, avoiding any results at all until 9:00 or 10:00 Eastern might be wise.

I feel bad for not voting in Virginia today. (My local delegate and senator, both Democrats, ran unopposed and literally the only remaining race on my ballot was the Democratic Clerk of Court running against two randos)

Ballz posted:I feel bad for not voting in Virginia today. It's ok, settle in and hopefully we'll have some vicarious excitement coming along from our friends in competitive districts. My delegate had an unserious Republican challenger but my Senate race was Joe loving Morrissey versus an unserious independent. I wrote in a local community activist, and Joe will win with 90% of the vote. Ugh. My best hope is he toes the party line and tries to actually deliver for his constituents in an effort to survive the inevitable primary from a well funded, prepared challenger in four years.

I'm another Virginian who voted and is hoping for good things. I've been hearing that turnout is unusually high for a non-national election year. Neither is in my district, but I'm especially hoping to see Bryce Reeves (whom I don't know too well but dislike just by the tone of his ads) and Commonwealth Attorney Robert Tracci go down (some discrepancies, at best, in prosecuting the Nazis after August 12th).

my bony fealty posted:why exactly *do* people keep supporting Joe Morrissey Short answer, historically marginalized communities of color are extremely used to turning out for politicians who then disappear for four years, and for all his many, many shortcomings, Morrissey knows how to make his constituents feel heard and seen through constituent services. That earns him some serious loyalty. my bony fealty posted:holy poo poo I used to work with Ghazala Hashimi, I had no idea she was running for State Senate. she's a really cool lady and really dedicated to public education and community colleges. so fuckin awesome to see her flip a seat.
