This is a Labour Tory marginal and the sitting Tory MP isn't standing! Pretty sure Electoral Calculus isn't a pollster either.

2017 result:

Cornwall was a LD stronghold, so they genuinely might have a chance at gaining seats here, but manipulating polls like that is lol

It’s extremely irritating listening to him constantly attempt to pivot away from the questions to try to get out the lines he’s on to spout no matter how non sensical.

I know they all do it but it’s just so obvious with him.

I looked up his constituency to see what his majority is in the hope he might be gone soon but lol nope, Braintree is extremely safe Tory - he’s safe there until Boris needs to hijack it for himself

So local tory MP who got 53% in 2017 has sent out a bit of trash election leaflet that has the 2015 results on it(he lost 36.6%-36%) and is claiming its going to be close.

I think and hope that someone might be a little bit worried :D

Definitely been getting that sense the last few days, yeah. It feels more like pre-emptive whining about Labour's policies from a lot of quarters than actual attempts to stop them.

Of course it could be a brilliant Dom Cummies plot to lull us into a false sense of security and we shouldn't get complacent, but... *Gestures at how much energy there is for Labour*

The Tories got burnt by that last time. Their aim seems to be focusing soley on Brexit.

The Libdems, well, I mean, they're entirely reliant on the CANCEL BREXIT policy, and "Hey Swinson is a Lady person - that means she's progressive". They started to become unhinged when all the CUKTIG, Labour, and Tory rejects fled to them, artifically swelling their ranks - giving them the loving delusion that, "Hey, we're a bigger party and gained more seats...that means we''re more electorally viable again :smug:".

Also the irony of trying to establish a cult of personality because they have no loving policies, when they accuse the left of forming a COP around Corbyn.

Things do feel good today, but don’t get complacent. Talk to everyone you can about it. I asked two people on the train yesterday if they were registered to vote, and I have majorly broken the “no talking about politics at work” rule this week. This is the most important election I’ve ever taken part in, so much more so than the brexit one. There are so many stories of people having a terrible, terrible time - just pick one and tell it to as many people as you can. We are on the cusp of destiny here my dudes, we have one chance to save millions of people from miserable lives and lovely deaths at the hands of the tories and however good things might look it is going to be loving close. It is shocking how much ignorance there is out there so we’ve got to spread the word of how things are and how they might be.

I am going to bang on about this so much even the ukmt will get annoyed

Aside from charisma I can affirm that he does actually have at least two real positions on things; Asteroids bad (Boo! Hiss!) and LGBT rights good (Lembit... good?). Which puts him one ahead of Jo af Swindonia.

Yeah, that was me. I worked in security for a very large bank and around the time various protests started kicking off I was used to ‘gather intelligence’ on the ground and online (so joining protests and reporting on their movements etc to prepare the security response). I was already a goon, but I mentioned LF and the activism in the uk thread at a meeting and was asked to keep an eye. So I did. And ended up swinging from a disgusting Tory voting libertarian to a full-blown socialist well to the left of Corbyn as a result.

It’s one of the reasons I really didn’t post much for years, despite having been reading the UKMT and it’s LF predecessor for like a decade now.

On the one hand I’m ashamed of why I first came here; on the other I feel that if someone as stubborn as me can be converted to the exact opposite end of the political compass by a bunch of goons then there’s hope for anyone.

Oh, and I left that job in 2011 and sued the pants off then for the treatment I received and the conditions I was forced to work under, fyi.

Edit: and to fully complete the change, fired off the volunteer form for momentum straight after typing this out. Ngl, I’m terrified (mental health stuff has kept me mostly housebound for the past few years), but perhaps this’ll be what I need as well as helping gently caress the tories in whatever way.

I didn't know about this until now. Really interesting story. Good on you, best of luck and gently caress your previous employers :)
