For some reason this made me think of a scam that's probably legal somewhere because gently caress the poor.

To apply for an apartment I had to pay them a $50 that I lose whether I'm approved or not. What's stopping shady rear end slumlords from just taking application fees but never approving people? Please tell me there's laws that prevent that sorta thing

That's probably illegal but good luck hiring a lawyer to sue for it

Had this happen to me a few years ago. The place was really desirable but the guy told me there were two applicants in front of me and offered to take my application and $35 check anyway saying don’t worry I’ll only cash it if I run your application. Three days later he leaves a voicemail telling me I had insufficient rental history but neither my then current landlord nor the friend I had pretending to be my previous landlord (had lost the old landlord’s contact info) ever heard from him. Ultimately wasn’t worth figuring out what to do over $35 bucks but I was loving annoyed.

they donate and make the university put it towards building new buildings but then don't give to actually do the maintenance on them so the university has a bunch of buildings that cost a lot in maintenance that may or may not be necessary, but hey some rich guy got to put their name on it so

Guessing it's mostly surfactants, which has similar hydrophilic properties as soap, that created lots of bubbles in water. And it's used in a lot of industries.

Some quick google

quote:

Surfactants are mostly used to decrease the surface tension between any two liquids or a solid and a liquid in the form of emulsifiers, detergents, wetting agents, dispersants, or foaming agents. They find application in several end-use industries such as petroleum, pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and cosmetics.

and it's most likely a waste products from these purposes judging from the existing industry in india

https://www.cesio.eu/index.php/applications/industrial-uses

quote:

Textile and fibre industries

Surfactants act as detergents and cleaning agents for the preparation and treatment of textiles such as silk and wool. They also fulfill specific functions in preparing fibres and yarns, for example as smoothing agents, antistatics and adhesives. In washing synthetic fibres, the applied preparations are emulsified and dispersed with surfactants to prevent spots in further processing steps such as dyeing.

Plastics

The production of everyday plastics would not be possible without surfactants which are used in both emulsion and suspension polymerisation production processes.

In emulsion polymerisation, the surfactant helps to create an even dispersion of monomers in the emulsion as the polymerisation is initiated. In suspension polymerisation, water-insoluble monomers are kept suspended in water using surfactants in order to produce consistent plastic beads.

Paints, coatings and pigments

Surfactants act as dispersing agents for colour pigments, stabilise colours and simplify stirring and homogenisation.

Oil-soluble surfactants also stabilise solvent-containing coatings and modern water-based coatings would not be conceivable without specialised surfactants. They improve the electric conductivity of powder coatings and make the particularly rustproof electrophoretic coating process possible – the electric attraction of the coating particles by electrically charged materials.

As defoamers, they prevent cratering when painting and spray coating. As levelling agents, they increase the evenness and gloss of the coating surface. In painting, the applied paint must wet the canvas to obtain a uniform film of paint – surfactants make this possible as well.
It's also used for a bunch of other things listed on that page.

Couple that with some other toxic chemicals as waste products that wasn't reprocessed to minimize toxicity before dumping it into the river and voila, you've got yourself some death snow.

I mean it’s a better work environment than the private sector and I prefer the culture but it’s unbelievably predatory and parasitic
