To apply for an apartment I had to pay them a $50 that I lose whether I'm approved or not. What's stopping shady rear end slumlords from just taking application fees but never approving people? Also most big schools just use the same common online portal for submitting applications but still charge individually, even though 99% of their administrative overhead has been outsourced, lol.

Three days later he leaves a voicemail telling me I had insufficient rental history but neither my then current landlord nor the friend I had pretending to be my previous landlord (had lost the old landlord’s contact info) ever heard from him. Ultimately wasn’t worth figuring out what to do over $35 bucks but I was loving annoyed.

I knew universities were an incompetently run grift when I went to school but now that I actually work in University Admissions I can confirm that it’s all worse than I ever imagined I mean it’s a better work environment than the private sector and I prefer the culture but it’s unbelievably predatory and parasitic
